It was in June of 2022 when I saw my first Green Woodpecker, and posted photos on the 29th of June. I was so excited, and from then on whenever I heard it's recognisable loud laughing call I looked out for it but didn't see it until recently. I was so lucky to be looking out the window when it appeared and almost in the same location where I had seen it previously. Here are the photos I took, as it walked along the top of the stone balustrade, and then stopped as if to listen.
I enlarged the first photo to be sure it had a black moustache.
A black moustache means it's a female, the male has a red one.
I wanted to share all the photos I took as....
I may not see the Green Woodpecker for a long time,
so have to make the most of this sighting.:=)
I know you will understand if they all look the same, however each one is numbered differently.

Good to know! Didn't know the female one with a black moustache.
We all join in your excitement and pleasure at this sighting, Sonjia, and embrace every picture. There is something uniquely appealing in a green woodpecker, and this provides an excellent example of why the name of the bird should be capitalized, so that we know whether we are talking about a Green Woodpecker or a green woodpecker. The most recent green woodpecker of my acquaintance was the Cuban Green Woodpecker, and very handsome it is too. Perhaps we are both enjoying our green woodpecker phase, although yours is likely to continue far beyond mine, since we have no green woodpeckers at all here in North America. Our loss is your joy! Hugs and kisses - David
I love woodpeckers and this one is a beauty! The name is perfect too, which isn’t always the case with bird names.
Querida Sonjia a mi me encanta poder ver una y mil fotos de esta preciosa ave. Aquí también lo tenemos y cuesta verlo ya que acostumbra a estar entre la hierba y no se ve. Las fotos son muy bonitas. Muchas gracias. Un enorme abrazo.
Beautiful photos of the green woodpecker.
I didn't know the difference between man and woman.
I hear them here, but never see them.
Greetings Irma
The color is beautiful, I like the red head.
I wish you a wonderful May
Curiosa ave el Pica Carpintero Verde.
Un saludo
Dear Sonjia :)
How beautiful photos you have taken of the green woodpecker! I have never seen this woodpecker before.
The black moustache was very cute!
Today I have been working in my greenhouse. It have been 21 degrees here today Finally the spring came here too!
Take care my friend!
Many hugs!
Marit
he is most handsome, I would even say gorgeous! I do the same thing, snap and snap and snap and each is a tad differen
These are so striking. I have never seen these before -- or even heard of them. The photos are wonderful and you could show me the same or different -- I would still be enchanted.
Dear Sonjia, I didn't know the females had a moustache. One learns something new every day. Take care.
Mike.
These are beautiful photos and I learned something new! I was not familiar with a green variety until now.
Wonderful birds - and their laughing call is so distinctive.

He is a vibrant colored woodpecker. I love woodpeckers because they have the nifty habbit of letting us know where they are. :)
Lovely pictures Sonjia. I have never seen a Green Woodpecker up close enough to tell if it was a male or female. I do remember once watching three of them picking through some moss. I always assumed it was a male, female and youngster. I heard one calling here regularly earlier in the year, but I haven't heard it for a while.
I wasn't aware that woodpeckers had a moustache!
It's always great to learn something new every day.
Your photos are stunning, Sonjia.
Hugs and blessings
Hello Sonjia,
I would be a happy birdwatcher with this beautiful woodpecker visiting.
Good timing and luck were with you on this day, a great sighting of your Green Woodpecker. I like your photos too. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend.
That's amazing - waiting a whole year to see the Green Woodpecker again!
...thank you Sonjia, now I've seen a green woodpecker too. We have several woodpeckers, but none are green. I hope that you are well and are having a wonderful weekend.
Beautiful images
What an interesting and unique bird! That is probably a bird that I will never see!
What a beauty! I love woodpeckers and I'm so glad there are so many different ones. Of course this is not one I'll see around here! Thanks for sharing!
She's a beauty indeed. Hopefully she makes a visit that you can see her sooner than the last time. Have a great week.
That is an intriguing bird; as David says, we don’t have it in North America, so it’s not familiar to me.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Me encanta el pájaro carpintero, lo he oído estos días, pero no lo he visto. Tus fotos están muy bien. Besos.
Beautiful Green Woodpecker images Sonjia.
I like this bird. A beautiful bird.
I'm glad you were able to take such beautiful photos of the green woodpecker. Thank you, I enjoyed each of your photos.
And I also saw a green woodpecker here this spring... unfortunately only once. I have been able to see the black woodpecker very often; in the spring it is easy to find because it screams so loudly.
I haven't even seen the great spotted woodpecker, which was otherwise omnipresent.
I wish you a happy week... I'm excited to see what you'll discover next.
Viola
Thank you for sharing these beautiful photographs of the green woodpecker.
I did enjoy seeing them.
I hope you are enjoying your May days.
All the best Jan
How pretty! I have never seen one.
He is a beauty -- I wouldn't be able to stop taking pictures either. And yours (as always) are so good Sonjia....I would recognize that bird if I were ever lucky enough to see it. This is one I've never seen before even on any of the birding blogs I look at. (In real life it would be a lifer! There should be a virtual life list ;>)!! Thank you for sharing this joy.
