In the winter months I see a quite a few dogs on the beach, when dog owners are allowed on the beach with their pets. One dull day last year in October however I spotted this one in the distance,and couldn't resist taking a few shots. The Grape Harvest

Our grape harvest has just finished, and this year we had a bumper crop and here are a few photos to share. The bright sunlight casts so many dark shadows, but you will get an idea of what went on. Our grapes are made into wine on the property for our own consumption, (one glass a day, for me) and it is also sold locally. It is mostly made into a wine called green wine Vinho Verde, which is a very light dry wine, and can be either white or red.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Vindimas/Grape Harvest, lasted thee days and a hearty meal was provided each day when the wine flowed freely, and much laughter and story telling went on in the company of old friends and neighbours.

Green Gate with Granary

Always on the look-out for something for Good Fences, I was very pleased to come across a gate with an Espigueiro on top, which is a very unusual sight, as they are usually built from the ground up on four blocks of granite. Espigeiros are little granaries made of wood and granite of ancient contruction.
They are narrow rectangular structures used for drying and storing corn, and they dot the country-side of northern Portugal. Some date back to the eighteenth century and have crosses on top to bless and protect the corn. Perhaps not the best exemple of an Espigeiro but an unexspected and interesting find nevertheless.  




 

To carry on with the G theme here are a few juvanile greenfinches seen on the same outing.

Sea Stars at the Seaside

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This is embarrassing, I did Not mean to publish this post just yet. I was editing it when it disapeared from my screen, only to reappear as my latest post. I will have to be more careful in future. Well I might as well finish editing it, here goes. The Starfish or Seastar are sea invertebrates, usually with five arms, thousands of tiny tube feet and a mouth at the centre of the oral,or lower surface. Most can regenerate damaged parts or lost arms. I found them washed up on the rocks, and the seagulls were pecking at them, so I threw them back into the sea where they could regenerate without being disturbed.

Hello everyone, I’m returning to blogging very soon. My health problems have been sorted, at least for the time being, and after months of physiotherapy, I’m able to sit at the computer again, but I have to take it easy, therefore will only be making one post a week. Whenever I can, I’ll join in the fun at Good Fences, Saturdays Critters, or The Bird D'pot, but regretfully, not all in the same week. Just lately I have been out and about taking photos, something I haven’t done for a long time, and it feels so good. At last I have a few captures to show you, and I can’t wait to start visiting my friends. See you soon!
