The Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) |
Although the Song Thrush goes to the bird table, they prefer feeding from the ground. |
They have a beautiful flute.like song, with each note repeated several times. |
They can be seen in woods, gardens orchards parks, and are common in towns. |
I often see the Song Thrush feeding on the ground with Blackbirds and Redwings. |

All the thrushes in Japan are shy and skulk around in the forest, in Europe they hop around in the garden!
great photo, love the backeround, it showa off the thrush so well!!
gorgeous thrush! reminds me of our american robins (a thrush, too).
Beautiful photographs, beautiful bird:) I am greeting
Wonderful photo's of the trush. I love to hear it sing its beautiful melody's. I have them in my garden to and it's always amuses me when he try's to eat a snail.
Have a wonderful evening Sonija
Hi Sonjia :-) First of all apologies for missing commenting on your previous post but I am not too well at he moment and everything is more of an effort :-( Anyway, I thought your photos were superb. Many is the time my husband has been sent up the road with a torch and a bucketful of recently gathered snails to be released in a grassy area at a suitable distance...I swear that every time they marched right back down the road again like soldiers returning to barracks! ;-)
The beautiful Song Thrush is the perfect follow up. If there were more of them in my garden there might be less use for the torch and bucket ;-) Your photos of this lovely bird are beautiful. I do love to hear the Song Thrush singing particularly at dusk.
What a perky looking little bird.
Stuart Price
Thats quite true they are less shy in Europe than where you are Stuart,so they must be difficult to photograph, but then you have some fabulous Japanese species which are almost tame, and I love to see them on your blog.
Susan
Thank you Sue:)Everything is looking so green at the moment, and insects and birds are everywhere. This Thrush was looking for worms in the garden.
TexWisGirl

I have often admired your American robin, it's a lovely bird.
ZielonaMila
Thank you so much. Although it is a common species, I think it is a very handsome looking bird. Glad you think so too:)
marijke
Thank you Marijke:)Their beautiful song is one I love to hear also.It is very adept at breaking the snails shells, funny to watch:) and clever to have worked out how to do this.
Hi Jan:) Oh! I'm so sorry you are not feeling well Jan, and please don't apologize for not visiting. It's not always possible to make comments when life gets more hectic, and especially when one is feeling unwell.I hope you will soon feel better:)You have not lost your sense of humour I see:=)
The image of those snails marching streight back to your garden made me laugh out loud:) It's the best way to deal with the problem though
and we do exactly the same thing. I think I'll mark the shells next time, just to see if they can find their way back!!!
A big hug, get well soon.
S. Etole

I understand Throstles are edible and are eaten in many parts of the world including Spain supervised or not!

You are on the wrong post Len!!!:)
Dear Sonija, the world of nature, the forms of which enchant us, it is always in the struggle for life.
Absolutely realistic, these images are impressive, because scrolling through the screen the thrush seems to move and live .... Wonderful post, my dear! Have nice weekend, hugs! Rita

Thank you so much Rita:)Turning this way and that, he hopped around foraging for food until a Magpie chased him away. You are so right RIta, it's all about the survival of the fittest, and The early bird catches the worm.
