The Lapwing
Vanellus vanellus
|
Hi fellow bloggers! I hope you all had a very Happy Easter.
Saw this beauty on my travels, and although I have seen them nearer home, because of the most unseasonable dull and rainy weather, this is one of the few captures I made whilst on holiday. The Lapwing is about 30 cm long. It's black and white plumage is striking enough, but the black feathers also have a beautiful metalic green sheen to them. It is easily recognised by it's long thin crest. It has rounded wings, and flight pattern is zig-zag, with acrobatic rolls and dives.
Will be catching up with all your blogs as soon as posible, see you:)

Beautifully captured between the Buttercups. Well done. Greetings, Joke
Beautiful picture. Lovely colors.
Greetings
You captured this gorgeous bird in a beautiful setting of yellow buttercups. I like how the wings are trimmed with a jade green hue. to top it off, the crest makes it look so dandy.
Captura fantástica, imagem muito bonita. Beautifully
Thanks for your comment on my blog, Sonjia. So strange that the English version didn't work, because when I try it everything functions normally. It is disappointing because I wrote it for all my friends abroad. I hope it will function better next time. Greetings, Joke
A lovely, colourful photo Sonjia. I love it when creatures pose in a setting which shows their colours to perfection. Lapwings really do have beautiful plumage.
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter break and that you at least had some good weather. It is still viciously cold here and we still have some drifted snow in the hedgerows!
really wonderful bird! great shot! glad to have you back! :)
Bardzo podobają mi się stojące piórka na głowie. Ptaszek cały jest śliczny. Pozdrawiam.
I love the feathers standing on his head. The bird is pretty. Yours.

Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment.

Thank you! The Buttercups do make a colourful backdrop for the lapwing.
Sweet
Thank you so much. The sunshine makes the Buttercups look even more yellow than usual.

Yes, I was lucky to see this dandy Lapwing in such a lovely spot:)

Thank you! Nice to see you here again. The wild Buttercups show off the colour of the Lapwings plumage, although I think there is a little too much contrast in the photo.

Thanks for calling in again. I will try the link again, as perhaps the fault was mine, although my computer has been acting a little weird, and sometimes seems to have a mind of it's own:)

Thank you Jan:) I took this photo on one of the few sunny days we had during our Easter break, but it rained in torrents most of the time:( We returned home to more rain, but I felt rested, and it had been a nice change to get away.
Hope you enjoyed your Easter.
So pretty in the variety in his feathers.

Yes, the plumage is so pretty. It seems to shine in the sun, bringing out the different colours.
Whoa!!! A Lapwing is one bird I love seeing in pics. But it would be even much more exciting in person. Congrats!
Beautiful and thanks for sharing. I've never seen one.

Hi Chris:) I was extreemly excited to see this lovely bird. Our winters are mild so it doesn't migrate but it's not one I see often.

Marijke
Thank you Marijke:)I usually go to the same place where I have seen them before in the hope of spotting them again. This time I was lucky, and also able to get relatively near to use my zoom lens
which really shows their pretty colours. I had a nice Easter break, thank you for inquiring, and I hope you also had a Happy Easter.
See you soon:)
Beautiful photo:) Greetings

Thank you Mike:)I'm so sorry your weather has not improved,as I'm sure it must have hindered your progress in your little bit of paradise and staying outdoors in bad weather is really not an option.
It's not even weather for ducks here. Our rivers flow so fast due to the incessant rainfall that waterfowl have completely disappeared from our local rivers. A lot of nests have been demolished along the river banks because of flooding, and a kingfisher I had been watching last month bravely made it's nest three times after it's home was swept away:( Unfortunately there is nothing to be done except wait, and hope for better weather conditions, which are long overdue.

Thank you Rita:)I am so pleased you like the photo.I will be over to see you very soon.

Oh dear, not seen or heard of this bird. I am no pro but I am a bird watcher in my yard and on my travels. It was lovely that you described it. Thank you for your comment. I am back home now. Hoping to blog again. Keeping my fingers crossed on that one!
Take care of yourself,
Oh well, you captured the Lapwing, lovely too.
If you ever travel to Nantucket Island you might see the Lapwing or Plover as it's sometimes called,
but it's a rare sight In North America.
Glad you're back.
Bob Bushell
Thank you Bob, nice of you to call by.
The Easter went up in the rain continues. The weather has hampered our routine and routine animal. I walk as time. :) Kisses
