AUTUMN WILDLIFE

These photos were taken in these last two days. It has been windy and cold and has rained profusly, but part of each day has been dry, and warm enough to go for a walk so camera at the ready I took advantage of these dry spells to go for walks in and around the property.

I started my walk by leaving from the front door and going the rounds taking photos of trees which surround the house, When I reached the back door  I took some more, and ventured into the garden where I took photos of flowers ferns and leaves which appealed to me.

Balcony shot of a Greenfinch.

Two balcony shots taken when I had finished my walk.

Not as pretty looking now, but it still adds a little colour to the garden.

These tangerines should be ready to eat by Christmas.

Murkywater prevented me from getting good shots of these two water loving creatures.

I was surprised to see a young Newt swimming in the water.

It tried to hide from me under some leaves.

On Monday morning just before lunch I took these shots of the captivating CrestedTit.

My Grand.daughter Sara twisted her ankle, so my daughter Eva took her to an adjacent town to ours, where Sara goes to physiotheropy for an injured foot and her place of employ is in the visinity. Eva waited to take Sara to work and whilst doing so looked at a few shops. Out of curiosity she entered one which sold fish and various kinds of lizards, both in large tanks. She inquired if the proprietor knew of a place where she could buy dried mealworm for birds. He told her that he fed the fish and lizards mealworm as part of their diet and also sold tubs of it to his customers. Eva bought a large tub knowing how pleased I would be when I found out, as I had been searching for mealworm for years without success. The Coal-tits love it.

We have been having some lovely sunsets so I'm including some in my post.

I will be linking to Wild Bird Wednesday and Saturday's Critters

Dear Sonjia,
What a beautiful series of photos this is.
I especially love the photos with the autumn colors.
Birds love dried mealworms, which I always buy.
The squirrel, the greenfinch, and the sunsets are my favorites this time.
I wish you a wonderful weekend.
Best regards Irma

An all round amazing post, Sonjia. We are all quite envious, of course, that you are able to enjoy such a walk right outside your own door! So much beauty and so much variety here. The headshot of the Greenfinch is quite wonderful, with every detail of the plumage revealed. I am glad that Eva was able to find mealworms for you. As you say, birds scoff them with enthusiasm, and if you are able to get them when the females are laying eggs they are very beneficial. I have not seen a newt in many a year and your picture spurs me to vow to search in likely places next spring. I would imagine that your health has improved and that your new computer is performing well when I see a post like this, and we are all grateful that is so. Hugs and kisses - David

All our leaves are gone so it is a joy to see the bright of your flowers and leaves. Love that bird with the seed!

the images of the birds are extraordinary...there is so much detail in them. most of our autumn color is gone now. it was a short lived season this year, i think the weather played a role in that!! gorgeous sunsets, i really enjoyed viewing them...our have been super pretty here too!!

Wonderful Autumn-colors, dear Sonjia. And interesting - our squirrels have the same color but way more fur on their ears. Beautiful bird-shots, too and the sunsets, awww...

...Sonjia I was impressed by your critter collection, but this tree guy enjoyed your massive sweet gums. Here since sweet gums are propagated by seed, the autumn colors can be varied. I love yours! I wish you a wonderful weekend, take cart\e and be well.

That's so thoughtful of your daughter, Eva, to track down the dried mealworms for your Coal-tits! A lovely post showing autumn beauty and kindness.

So much beauty, Sonjia. It is good about the mealworms!

What a triumph about the mealworms! That’s a classic best friend move from Eva. Searching for years and then finding a large tub unexpectedly is the best kind of luck. I bet the Coal-tits are going to be thrilled. www.melodyjacob.com

It is so beautiful where you are. You are so fortunate to have all that loveliness at your fingertips. Newts in the pond, and tangerines, I haven't found tasty tangerines for years. So many beautiful photos of your autumn, it is always a joy to visit and see what your next experience will be. I want to wish you a good rest of November, beautiful lady. You always bring a warm smile to my face.

Oh yes, dear Sonjia,
Great tits love mealworms, I know that from experience. They're relatively easy to get here – we have a pet shop in town that sells them, and there's also a building supply store that also carries pet food and wild bird food; you can sometimes find them there too.
Your garden still looks so beautifully colorful – here, there are hardly any leaves left on the trees and bushes. And all your animal visitors bring me great joy! The young newt is a surprise for me too – in our relatively cold country, it probably wouldn't survive the winter (unless there are special survival strategies, like some amphibians have... I'm afraid I don't know enough about that...). It's wonderful that you took advantage of the break in the rain to share your experience with us; thank you so much for that – and also for your lovely comment on my previous post 😘
Wonderful sunsets!!!
Have a good start to the new week!
Hugs and all the best, Traude

Stunning autumn shots!
Love the Greenfinch and CrestedTit photos, and the shy newt is so cute.
Those sunsets are breathtaking, Sonjia!

Hi Sonjia, you have such a beautiful garden and everything looks so healthy. I love the mature trees and old stonework. We have plenty of old trees, but many of them are diseased and although our house is built in the grounds of an ancient old estate, we don't have any old stonework to add interest.
I am so pleased to hear that you how have some good bird food. I am sure the Coal Tits and others will really appreciate it!

Beautiful captures of the flora, fauna and incredible fiery skies!

I meant to say, I love those newts. I have never seen any like that. We have a few species here, which are mostly brown and I remember seeing black and yellow ones in the Pyrenees. Do you know what species they are?

You still have so much color and beautiful flowers around the house! Love the Newt and the Crested tit.
Happy Weekend!
