SQUIRRELS AND BIRDS

Squirrels have become a bit of a problem. I don't mind one or even two squirrels at a time on my balcony,....but five! No no no! They come from different directions and are now the first creatures to arrive here. I don't chase them away immediately I do let them eat something, but when I think they have had enough I go outside and chase them away. They don't go far however, just up trees to wait until I go inside and then they return. The only good thing about it is I'm able to take their photos

This is the only squirrel photo taken when the sun was shining.

When they return I go outside again, clap my hands, and shout words I won't write here, and they get the message, as I'm sure you do too, :) and I see them scamper over the roof, or run down the driveway.

The next four images were taken of the same squirrel  grooming himself whilst he waited.

When I'm sure they have gone, I replenish the feeders for the birds.

I found these two photos in my files taken a few years ago in the garden.

I don't think I shared them so I am including them here.

The Blue-tit

Enjoying a small piece of cake.

Greenfinch in the rain.

The Robin likes to eat from the ground, so I make sure there are plenty of crumbs scattered about.

By evening there is not a crumb tin sight.

The squirrels take the shelled peanuts with them, so I put more on the ledge for Will and the Jays.

These photos were taken last week when the weather was overcast, but next week it is going to be sunny.

Will  came to my balcony yesterday,

I can see Will from a distance, he has been visiting this conifer tree every day and is making a hole.

Pausing in a tree before coming over for a peanut.

Such beauty outside the door! The squirrels are larger than the species we have here. Your avian visitors are beauties too. Love the woodpeckers especially. I spent time watching them along the boardwalk this morning. Different species but fascinating just the same.

Thank you for sharing these photographs, they were very enjoyable to see.

I do enjoy seeing squirrels, there are usually three that visit the garden along with a good selection of birds... quite fascinating to watch their antics!

Enjoy the rest of the week.

All the best Jan

I love the European robins! We call them Rotkehlchen here, meaning little red throat, just the way it looks. The shots of squirrel are so beautiful..another cute critter.

Dear Sonjia,
What a great series of photos these are.
Great to have five squirrels in your garden, you can take a lot of photos of them.
There are also a lot of birds in your garden, I think the robin is so cute.
Greetings Irma

Good morning, Sonjia: Squirrels are here on Earth, wherever they appear, to provoke humans! That is an undeniable fact. Right now, scampering around my backyard, swinging from the bird feeders, chasing each other and anyone who gets in the way, are nine squirrels. Nine! I get mad at them, but the anger doesn’t last. One of them in particular melts the ice of my ire when he hops up on the window sill and has a chat! I cut up a slice of whole wheat bread for him which he eats, piece by piece, as daintily as if he were at the King’s garden party. I think I have learned to live with them! Hugs and kisses - David

Your squirrels look a bit different than ours and they are indeed beautiful. Wonderful photos of them (and the birds too, of course!) I see a fair number of them here but this year fewer than last winter. And they are being better behaved about the bird feeder -- continually had to chase them off of that one! Good luck with keeping them under control!

Dear Sonja :)
Those are great pictures you've taken of the squirrels. Yes, they're mischievous, but they're also so cute. Having five of them visit at once is really special.
You've photographed the blue tit so beautifully. It's one of my favorite birds. The woodpecker has finally returned here too.

All the best to you!
Lots of warm hugs.
Marit

Lovely pictures of the Red Squirrels and birds. We have both Red Squirrels and American Grey Squirrels here. I much prefer the Reds.
For some reason I haven't seen a Greenfinch where we live now. I used to see a lot in East Lothian. Maybe they prefer arable land.

Your balcony is such a lively place!
Five squirrels must be a challenge, but at least they make great photo subjects. I love how you ensure the birds get their share too.
Will sounds like a special visitor—I hope he keeps coming back for his peanuts! 😊

Hello Sonjia,
Your squirrel images are adorable. I love their cute ear tufts and their color. Our gray squirrels are just plain looking. The Robin, the Jay and the woodpecker are all great visitors. I would be a happy birder to see them! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a wonderful weekend.

I have the same problem with squirrels on my deck and they like to eat the vegetables that I grow there. We chase them a lot too, Sonjia.
Love the pics of them though.

A lovely series of photos! Your squirrels have the most beautiful furry coats on them, a lot different to ours. The birds are a welcome sight. Squirrels can be quite naughty and greedy but I have to confess, I enjoy looking at them. I realize they can be a bit of a pest though and it's hard to keep them away :)
