BIRDS AND PLANTS.

Another week has gone by and I seem to have done quite a lot of things that I had been putting off for ages. I did some sewing, and pruned  some plants, and although I have not finished yet, at least I made a start. I went to see how the men were doing pruning the old chestnut trees and they have almost finished but when Will did not appear up here I was afraid that Will had  been frightened and flown away, since he made his home in one of the many holes in those trees. How relieved I was to see him this morning, if only a fleeting view- :) I'm still going to the clinic every three days to have a change of dressing on the suborn scar which is not healing well, but afterwards Eva and I enjoy having tea in town and depending on her work load Sara my granddaughter joins us. She was 36 last Saturday and a good time was had by all the family. Every Saturday lunch and tea are at my house and all the family convene here. I'm always busy and that is why I rarely make visits until I'm free on Sunday.

This is the only photo I managed to take but a reassuring one and I sighed with relief.

In compensation I got a very good view of a Eurasian Jay.

I was sorry I didn't have time to get the whole bird in the frame. Minus the tail the Jay loses a lot of his elegance.

Looking out of the other window in my bedroom I saw a small clump of moss growing on the roof tiles.and thought how pretty it looked, although it will have to be removed along with some ferns.

Not like my esteemed Hoya plant which I have staked to two very tall canes, and it is now 90 cm

From base of plant to top.

Crudely tied to the canes, it stands tall, and perhaps will grow taller in spring.

You can check with the first photo that this is the top of the plant

Being optimistic there is still another meter of cane left. :)

These grey and rainy days  have carried on for weeks, so it's nice to see some colour in the garden

Also in my extended garden the red cedars look great amongst the greenery.
especially when the sun comes out they seem to glow in sun light.

Although the grey clouds dominate the sky and cast ominous shadows everywhere we have had some lovely sunsets, but now as I write, I can hear the rain outside coming down in torrents and it's so dark there will be no visible sunset this evening.

The jays here are difficult to photograph. They are really shy.

It's nice that your Will has returned.
And what's particularly nice to see is the way the jay cleverly holds the fruit in its beak.
I keep my fingers crossed that your wound heals quickly and well and send you my best wishes.

plants and birds and all critters are my favorite things to look at.. the cane looks something like daddy's sugar cane. I did love that stuff. he would hack a piece off and peel it and we should chew and chew till the juice was gone. maybe a sister plant, love that pink jay.. wow... all your birds are so sweet and so happy Will made his entrance and now you know he is around.
I would love to have a day a week or even one a month to meet up with my son and his wife

Dear Sonjia:)
I'm glad that Will is back. Your photos of Eurasian Jay is wonderful. It's a very beautiful bird. I like your hoya plant. It must enjoy your climate. Yes, your daffodils give color in the rain. I long for spring and colors.
Lunch and tea sounds lovely. I don't drink coffee, only tea.
Take care my dear friend, and stay warm.
Many hugs!
Marit

You have so many beautiful birds in your area. Would have loved to see the tail on that Jay. Hopefully someday you'll be able to get that shot.

Dear Sonjia,
These are great pictures.
The second one is a really nice picture I think.
I hope the scar heals quickly.
I wish you a nice Wednesday.
Greetings Irma

Hello, Sonjia: It is great news, of course, that Will has not deserted you, and I suspect that he will make his presence known more frequently, but in the meantime that gorgeous Jay is not a bad substitute. Perhaps they are both vying for your attention. After all beautiful ladies who dispense food are not easy to find, and are to be cherished and protected. Let’s hope they don’t resort to a duel! And then there are Great Tits and Crested Tits. Not a bad suite of courtiers for the Queen, I would say. Flowers too. It’s a good life! Hugs and kisses - David

That Eurasian jay is a stunner. I'm so glad you can make your dressing change appointment a little more fun with tea after. That helps! You take care!

These are marvelous photos and it's a delight to see all the different birds that live in your area. I am glad Will returned. What a gorgeous sunset! Your plants and other photos make me smile. I am sorry you are having to visit the clinic every three days and hope you will heal quickly with their help. Lovely time with your family also. I wish you a very happy week.

Dear Sonjia,
the close-up of the jay with the nut in its beak is amazing! The many other beautiful photos of him and other feathered visitors turned out well too. And I'm really pleased that Will didn't let himself be driven away either. I can understand that you're excited.
A tree was recently felled on one of my walking routes. Unfortunately, it's exactly the tree in which I saw a family of woodpeckers a year ago (or was it two years ago?)... I think trees are treated very carelessly and sloppily here, even though they are such sources of joy, power packs against climate change, they give animals food and shelter, they give us all shade and coolness and some even fruit... And your red cedars are a great sight!
Your Hoya - is that what they call a wax flower here (with white flowers)? I'm curious! The lump of moss is pretty, you can put it in a flowerpot with some soil, stones and sand.
I hope your wound gets better soon! And I hope you stay healthy and can stay in your home for a long time!
All the best, Traude

Great to see signs of spring with you and I am so glad that Will is back! We have had cold easterly winds with drizzle for a couple of weeks now and all the plants have stopped growing! Our daffodils are only about three inches tall, so some weeks behind yours! I look forward to seeing pictures of your chestnut trees once the pruning work is finished. I am still sawing up the trees and branches that came down in the storm about a month ago!

...Sonjia, I love seeing your birds which different than those I see. But being a plant nerd, I love seeing what grows around you. Stay bush and well, until next time.

Your photographs are lovely, I especially enjoy the detail you captured with the birds. The peanut snatched reminded me of my common blue jays. They are quicker and more adept than the squirrels at grabbing the peanuts I throw outdoors. I also love how smart they are, always choosing the largest nuts.

The second photo is priceless. You captured lots of beauty in your photos. Take care and have a wonderful week.
