A DEER BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

On the morning of my birthday Eva phoned me to say she had a surprise for me, and that both Pedro and I should  get ready to go for a drive, and"bring your camera" she said. She arrived early and we set off for a ride in the country. After about an hour passing many fields the car came to a halt and she told us we had reached our destination. I was mystified and excited. Eva said "it's only a short walk from here, and all will be revealed." There was an embankment which we climbed and a high wall  which surrounded an estate.  The wall was not as high further down a slope and we were able to look over the wall into a field and this is what we saw.

A young Doe

I was ecstatic with pleasure .

I never would have guessed that this was what Eva wanted to show me.

Eva had known for some time about the existence and location of the deer, and when she went there to see them, there had been many more deer, and she was a little disappointed that there were so few on the day she had chosen to show me.

I was not disappointed at all.

I was deliriously happy.

Eva pointed out that there were some young male deer resting near a wall which were so far away that I hadn't even noticed they were there

It really was a lovely surprise and then I had the rest of the day to look forward to.:=)

I will be linking up to Saturday's Critters, click on the icon on the side bar to see some amazing creatures from all over the globe.

We have a herd of seven or eight deer that live in our development so we see them all the time with their offspring. They must be a different species because I have never seen deer that still have those spots with antlers that big. Our fawns lose their spots during their first winter. That was indeed a nice birthday surprise. Happy birthday

That is a really wonderful surprise, Sonjia. Bravo, Eva! For a naturalist it doesn’t have to involve great sums of money and elaborate plans, does it? Nothing could have provided much greater pleasure than this. It speaks not only to the quality of the encounter but of the people who recognize the joy and share with others. My kind of people! Hugs and kisses - David
