FLOWERS, INSECTS, AND BIRDS.

Dear fellow bloggers due to my left knee being very painful I have done very little visiting this week, spending most of my time lying in bed with the foot of the bed elevated to help reduce the swelling. A pkt of frozen peas was also useful  to apply every hour or so, and medication for inflammation every twelve hours Keeping the weight of my body off my knee is the best thing to do by keeping walking and even sitting to a minimum, so my lovely daughter Eva bought me my first Smartphone to keep me entertained, and I have been learning how to use this very sensitive devise which is so challenging. Images disappear at the slightest touch so I have to treat it with the upmost care, gently with tender care reminding myself that I must use less pressure when swiping up or sideways. Many people have a Smartphone these days and will know what I mean..This morning I saw an interesting french film, and the Euro news, but it has numerous channels, and I'm amazed at how far technology has come, ...can you tell I'm thrilled with my gift!

With the exception of one photo all these photos were taken in June and July in the garden.

The Carpenter Bee.

This flower just appeared in my garden. It is the Acanthus mollis plant otherwise known as Bear's breeches or Oyster plant. The Acanthus mollis plant has many health benefits. The roots are used in treating cough, asthma, leukorrhea, and paralysis. The shoots and leaves are used against bites of animals and insects, and the mucilage of leaves helps in the treatment of neuralgia and rheumatism.

Blackbird in full sun I see lots of Great-tits and Coal-tits but very few other birds  visit my balcony now,and the Blackbird has stopped coming.

Cute and very tiny unknown insect.

Grasshopper.

A Jay on my balcony...

however the Jays are now infrequent visitors to my balcony.

One of my favourite plants in my garden the Mountain laurel

A closer look at these pretty flowers.

Flowers growing on garage roof tiles.

I found this Hare's foot Clover growing in the garden.

And to finish, sharing two different Jays on my balcony.

I will be linking up to Saturday's Critters, click on the icon on the side bar to see some amazing creatures from all over the globe.

Dear Sonjia,
I KNEW I know the plant: This is hogweed (Acanthus mollis) - according to Wikipedia "a perennial plant from the acanthus family that is widespread in the Mediterranean region. It is used as an ornamental plant and has a white, purple-colored crown."
I'm so sorry that you're having physical problems again and are in so much pain! I hope the medicine helps you! Fortunately, you still have this large number of breathtakingly beautiful close-ups that you can show us. I'm always impressed by your bird visitors - and the insects on your pretty flowers are also impressive!
I hope you feel better soon - and until then, may your new smartphone keep you entertained!
All the best and have a nice weekend, Traude

I saw grasshoppers recently. I find them fascinating.

The blossoms are so pretty, no wonder the insects like them.

Hope your leg recovers soon.

Gorgeous shots, esp. the jays! I am not a fan of smartphones...avoiding them as long as I can. Hope you recover soon! Not able to go anywhere is hard, esp. if you love nature.

Sorry to hear about your knee pain—I hope you’re finding some relief with the treatment. Your new smartphone sounds exciting, though I can imagine it’s a bit tricky to get used to!
Your garden photos are beautiful, especially the Acanthus mollis and all the lovely bees and butterflies.
Thanks for sharing these with us, and I hope you continue to find enjoyment despite the pain.

Dear Sonjia :)
It's always a joy to look at your beautiful photos! The Provençal Short-tailed Blue butterfly is so pretty. Your hydrangea have a beautiful blue color. I love them very much. The Mountain Laurel is also so lovely. I have never seen them here. The Jays are not here either. Lovely photos of them.
All the best to you my dear friend!
Hugs!

Hello Sonjia,
First of all, lots of strength with your knee, I really hope the pain goes away soon.
The photos are really beautiful, I especially love the blue hydrangea, but I also think the jay is beautiful.
I wish you a good weekend.
Greetings Irma

your photos are gorgeous, wow on the bumblebee that I see every hair on its body. love the butterflies too. I am so glad you got the smartphone, they are addictive and its like holding a mini desk top in your hand. when I have to lay down to prop up my varicose veins, I use the cell phone and the iPad, which is like a cell phone but bigger. I have a pillow that is made for sitting phone/ipads on. since you can't take photos, practice from your bed taking photos of everything in the room and learn how to use the camera and edit. you can also tell us what you are doing and what you are learing. I am wondering if you got apple or android. I prefer android but have both. the apple were gifted to me. my phone is android. you don't have to show us the photos of your room, I just practice learning what it will do by watching videos on YouTube and then delete the photos..

Good morning, Sonjia - Dr. David here. Take very good care of that knee and keep up with the frozen pea treatment. This is a unique therapeutic intervention not generally found in medical textbooks, but it is quite apparent that it is extremely effective, especially the manner in which the bag contours itself around your lovely limb. I think you should take pictures and post them, for we are all filled with curiosity and wonder. Two of my friends are retired physicians and I shall be contacting them immediately and they will no doubt be forwarding details of this innovative technique to all who care to know. In the meantime enjoy your smartphone and the birds, bees and butterflies who come to visit. A glass or two of Vinho Verde is an essential part of a speedy recovery too, as are hugs and kisses of which I am sending you millions! David

I'm so sorry to hear you have been sidelined. Those frozen peas are such a great thing (frozen corn works, too!). Better than all the icepacks in the world because they just mold to where you need them. I hope it all levels off soon. It sure didn't hurt your post though -- the images, as always, are spectacular. (I hear you on the phone. I don't know how many times I have held the phone to my ear and somehow my cheek either puts me on mute, the caller on hold or disconnects it altogether!)

I’m so sorry to hear about your knee pain, but it’s great to see you making the most of your downtime with your new smartphone! It sounds like you’re getting the hang of it, despite the learning curve. The Acanthus mollis plant in your garden is fascinating, and it’s wonderful to learn about its health benefits. Thank you for sharing this with us! Happy weekend. I just shared a new post, I invite you to check it out. Thank you. www.melodyjacob.com

...I've had a smartphone for two years and I'm still trying to learn how to use it. I'm a slow learner.
A bag of frozen peas can do wonders. Take care and be well soon.

Beautiful photo, Sonjia. Your close-ups of the Jays is stunning. I like the grasshopper, brings back memories of my youth when I tried to catch them, but never succeeded. :) The flowers are so pretty and colourful. I hope your leg continues to heal and that you have a wonderful weekend.

Hello Dear Sonjia,
It sounds like you're making the best of a challenging situation, and I'm so glad to hear Eva found such a thoughtful way to keep you entertained during your recovery. Smartphones can indeed be quite sensitive, but it sounds like you're already getting the hang of it! It's amazing how much we can do with just a little device these days—watching films, keeping up with the news, and staying connected to the world. Regarding my own smartphone, sometimes it seems too smart and sometimes not quite smart enough. 😊 Wishing you a speedy recovery, and I hope your knee feels better soon. Enjoy your new gadget and all the discoveries it brings! Your friend in Seattle, John
PS Thank you so much for the kind comment you left on my blog a few days ago. Great to hear from you! John

Take care of yourself and give yourself time. Don't worry about visiting, just do what you need to do to heal. I love the mountain laurel and that cute unknown insect. I love seeing your photos from this summer! Hugs!

Great pictures! The butterflies are indeed breathtaking. I’m sorry that you are laid up with a sore knee. I know it’s frustrating as well as painful.

I’ve had a smart phone for a long time and I still haven’t mastered the light touch.

I hope your knee gets better soon. My right knee after months of being a nuisance is now very painful so I'll be heading to the doctor soon.
I love all your blooms with insects included.

Hello Sonjia, what a fantastic series of photos. I enjoyed each and every one of them. Thank you so much! I was also very sorry to read about your knee. This is quite a coincidence as I am recovering from a badly sprained knee and have not been able to walk anywhere at length for several weeks. I hope you will heal very quickly. So nice to know your daughter bought you a smartphone. I feel the same way about my iPad. I have traveled all over the world on that device. Happy September to you my friend, and speedy healing.

Dear Sonjia, I hope it's not a bad sign that you last posted more than a week ago. How are you doing with your new smartphone?I hope your pain has stopped or at least subsided and that you arrived safely in September. Thank you very much for your lovely comment - and you were right, of course: I was busy doing other things and that's why it took me so long to finally go to the Celtic festival 😊. This year I've already done a few things that I've wanted to do for a long time (or that have existed for a long time and I just didn't notice them) and have now finally managed to do them. But my bucket list is pretty long... - there's still a lot to do...
All the best and have a nice Sunday 😘, Traude

Hi Sonjia, Lovely pictures of insects, birds and flowers. The butterfly on the lavender intrigues me. It looks like a Green-underside Blue, Glaucopsyche alexis, although my old butterfly book says it is absent from Portugal. I hope you are enjoying your mobile phone. I use mine most of the time, but I find my laptop is much better at doing most things, just not as convenient!

A nice abundance of insects and flowers. It's usually a pleasant surprise to be greeted by a new plant moving in on its own. It's very pretty and loved by the bees. Wishing you the best with your knee recovery. I've been there before. You'll love your smart phone after you become smarter than it. Happy week ahead.
