THE ESTUARY part one.

Every Tuesday, my daughter Eva comes here and makes lunch for us. This week after we had finished our lunch, she suggested that we go for a ride to the seaside. Always game for some photographic opportunities I was immediately enthusiastic, and we arrived at our destination shortly after three. It had been some time since I had had the pleasure of looking at the sea and breathing in sea air. It was a warm day, and as I made my way to the estuary in Foz I passed other people enjoying the views and engaging in leisurely pursuits, which I will share in my next post. When I arrived at the estuary to my delight there were what appeared to be thousands of gulls, and a few other bird species that I was pleased to see. Once again, the bright sunlight was in my eyes at 3.40, but it did not deter my excitement at seeing so many birds, in fact I had never seen such large numbers of Grey Heron in one area as on that day, but first the photos of the gulls.

I took quite a few photos of this heron.

A grey heron bottom right, and a Cormorant amongst the gulls.

This concludes the first part of my visit to the estuary.

Dear Sonjia,

So many birds there were at the estuary, and they obviously enjoy to be near the water. The Grey Heron looks very pretty.Beautiful photos as always, and I enjoyed them very much.
Hugs and greetings from Norway.

Hello, Sonjia. I hope that you can persuade Eva to take you out into nature after lunch every week when she visits. These are beautifully atmospheric photos.

How did you persuade the Grey Herons to pose for you? In my experience, they fly if you get less than about 200 metres from them.

You can't beat good company and wonderful nature surrounding you - and a bit of warm sunshine helps too !! Yes, a weekly excursion with Eva is my prescription for your wellbeing.

With my very best wishes - - - Richard

That sounds like a lovely afternoon. It is lovely that your daughter comes each Tuesday to eat with you.
Great to see so many seagulls and other birds there. These days there seems to be so much disturbance on the beach that most sea birds are out at sea.

A wonderful bird galore. Heron looks quite agile there. Love the variety of captures on scene.

Kudos to Eva for her wonderful idea, to be repeated often, Eva (hint, hint)! Your photographs provide ample evidence that the coast is a wonderful place to visit with rich habitat. It is hard to beat the cries of gulls and the smell of salty air. If you can have a few cooperative herons too, then who's to complain? There really is something invigorating, both mentally and physically, about the ocean and those who occupy a beach merely to crisp their skin are missing so much. Maybe next time you go Eva will consider a picnic lunch do be enjoyed en plein air. Delight on top of delight! Big, big hugs from Ontario where the colours of fall will take your breath away - David

Oh my! Well, apart from the absolute joy of spending time with your daughter (which would be just the best -- I can't imagine how joyful that would be, to do something like this together) -- the photos are fabulous! What glorious sightings, each and every one. Sometimes nature puts on a show and it delivered big time for you today!

Hello, Sonjia :=)

What an excellent set of photos from your visit to the seaside. You will know that I recently visited the Oregon coast, so you will know I’m telling the truth when I say you saw an extraordinary number of gulls as seen in your first 3 photos. Wow! I saw lots of gulls, but not that many in one spot. Very cool! And, the Herons … another Wow! Love those photos! Thank you for sharing this first part of your visit to the estuary and I will be looking forward to the next part. And thank you for your kind comment on my blog! Best wishes to you from Seattle!

Hi Sonjia. It's so nice when family visit isn't it? We always look forward to their sometimes unpredictable timings. Even better that Eva took you to the seaside where you could use the camera. I too have trouble in photographing Grey Herons. they are just very wary here because they live among birds that are shot at - wildfowl and geese. Even the herons are sometimes !
