SPRING IMAGES, For WILD BIRD WEDNESDAY

As I look out the window, I wonder when the rain will stop. We had one day last week when the sun shone, but it's been raining ever since, and not just drizzle, but heavy rainfall  accompanied by thunder  and lighting storms. A far cry from from our usual March and April weather, so here are some spring photos from last year, and few from last week on the day it didn't rain.

THE LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKER:

THIS WAS MY FIRST SIGHTING, AND I WAS QUITE SURPRISED TO SEE HOW SMALL IT IS:

SPRING FLOWERS COMING INTO BUD.

PINTAS, GOING DOWN SOME STONE STEPS TO THE ORCHARD, actually took this photo two springs ago..

MALE AND...

FEMALE WALL LIZARDS

FISH IN OUR POND, taken one day last week when I went to feed them.

ALSO BY THE POND, A TOAD IN HIDING! :=)

IS THIS A KIND OF RAT ANYONE!!! MEL CHASED IT DOWN A ROAD ON THE FARM,

IT HAD NOWHERE TO HIDE;  AND I GOT A GOOD LOOK AT IT'S TINY EARS AND SHORT TAIL.

THE GREATER SPOTTED WOODPECKER

GREEN-VEINED WHITE.

THE HOOPOE (PHOTO TAKEN IN APRIL LAST YEAR).

WHEN I FED THE FISH I ALSO TOOK A PHOTO OF THIS LITTLE BIRD. he he!!:)

Thank you for sharing your great photos. I love to watch for birds and butterflies here and the flowers and trees are really starting to blossom!
It looks like we will be carrying our umbrellas with all these April showers.

your photos never cease to amaze me, so sharp and clear and beautiful... Sweet Pintas and i think your little creature that was scared down the road, is a Vole, at firt i thought Mole but changed my mind. try searching for Vole and Mole pics.
the birds are so gorgeous as is the green veined white. flowers are brilliant. hope your rain stops soon, the weather here in USA has been crazy all year and last year, seems the world weather is crazy.

I hope that with these lovely memories you will quickly bring spring back. :)

The weather in Europe really seems to have gone awry. There have been so many posts of unusual weather of one kind or another - and often causing serious headaches. I hope your rain stops soon. I can only imagine what it must be like for tourists who have looked forward to a vacation in sunny Portugal arriving to these kinds of conditions.

Lovely pictures Sonjia. We had sunshine last week while I was stuck in the office and then rain for the four-day Easter break! It rained again all day today, when I was supposed to be out on site visits, but I have postponed them until Thursday when it is meant to be dry!
I wonder if your little creature is a vole? Possibly a field vole. I think the bank vole is browner.

Hi Sonjia, That's the nice thing about being a photographer is when things are not so good you have lots of good images to look back on.
Take care. Mike.

Well done to remind us of what Spring should be like. It's miserable here too. I have managed to mow my lawns once but since then too wet and cold to do any gardening. I saw a duck on my neighbour's roof yesterday. Is that a sign of Spring or simply rising water levels?!?

Beautiful series of critters.
The Hoopoe is winner, though.
Have a good week!

Lovely capture from your springs and I really enjoyed your critters. I wonder the toad is a real one? Your photos are such natural and admire the point of views

Birds and butterflies. Two of my favorite critters to watch. Those flowers are beautiful. I'm ready for the rain to stop myself. We've had plenty in recent days. Happy Wednesday!

These photos are absolutely “Breathtaking “Sonja! Your photography is always wonderful...I especially love your Koi pond. So beautiful and it’s so sad that I only have 2 koi’s in my pond! Im hoping my hubby decides to buy some more this year. He’s upset that Hurricane Sandy finished most of the off so not sure what he’s going to do... Enjoy your day!!!!!

Despite the rain you have some fine shots there Sonjia. It's wonderful to see a Lesser-spotted Woodpecker. they are now quite rare in the UK and up here in North West England, almost non-existent. Sorry to hear about your weather - it sounds so similar to our own which is still wet and cool. Maybe we'll have a fine May? Hope so as we are in Menorca first two weeks.
