The White Rhinoceros

We were about half way through our tour of the zoo when we saw these small school children with their teacher having their photos taken with the Rhino. It was a good time to stop, have a drink, and take in the view.

The River Douro.

One of the gates we saw on our walk.

A Peahen and her young, were walking along the paths and in the gardens.

The real McCoy....

The White Rhinoceros. Their name means (Nose horn)

The White Rhinoceros have two horns, the foremost being more prominente than the other.

The Muscovy Duck seen in the zoo pond.

We have always had Muscovy ducks on the farm,...

The male hisses at intruders, but wag it's tails when spoken to!!:)

our neighborhood is full of Muscovy's. they just walk out across the streets and MOST of us sit and wait. the real deal here is awesome, and at first photo I thought how are they petting a Rhino? then I realized it was a statue.

Ha ha Sonjia. That rhino almost had me fooled until I saw how close the kids were. You are having some lovely sunny days, despite them being short. Here it's 8 until 4 now and our Menorca trip for 1st May seems s long way off. I could really use some of your sun. I'm looking forward to 1st Jan too, about when the days begin to appear noticeably longer.

It's nice to see the children enjoying the zoo, and the weather.

Despite having been to most countries in the world (I spent 25 years in aviation, on long range jet aircraft), I have never been to Portugal. It looks lovely with glorious weather.

Love the photographs, as usual

I used to fish on a lake with that type of duck - they were very good at stealing your bait when you were distracted!

Beautiful post with the Rhinos, but even more with the peacocks - so elegant and beautiful! From your story in the side bar, I remember now I've been at your blog before. Do you know, I can't sit too long either, but I do my artwork (almost all) standing at an easel. It always pains me when artist can't do their art anymore, so I hope this would be a solution for you!

Dearest Sonija; Oh, it sure is LOVELY to see school children with their teacher; you kindly commented on my post which I saw little kids in the park♡♡♡
I've never seen all the critters you introduced here p;)
Wish to see Peahen opened its wing someday. Oh, interesting to know Rhinocero means Nose Horn, thanks for the information♪ The Muscovy Duck's color contrast of red face with black and white body is amazing.

ps; The other day, I taught my first grade of Junior high school students about how we became to call England "igirisu,イギリス". When your people came to our country in Edo period, the way they pronounced the country sounded like that. I am happy we have old relationship with your country like we talked before (♡^.^♡)

I remember reading a story a few years ago about a farmer who had tried all kinds of chemical remedies to get rid of flies in his cow stalls, with indifferent success. Then he introduced a couple of Muscovy Ducks, free to roam among the cattle, and the problem was solved - biologically and beneficial to humans, cattle and birds alike.
