BIRDS ON BRANCHES November 2023

Even though the weather has not been favourable, I try to get outdoors as much as I can, and deadhead my flowers and prune overgrown plants, all at waist high as I can not bend,.My garden is a place of calm and refuge for both myself and the birds which inhabit this secluded place.I listen to the sounds I hear around me which often result in me photographing the birds in the trees. The misty mornings are magical, The mountain mist shrouds my house and garden and it takes on an atmospheric feeling of being unreal  and gives it an other worldly appearance which I love. When the sun appears later in the morning  the day is filled with light and colour which brings me joyous moments of warmth and clarity and. I feel like a child again excited at what lies ahead, These photos were taken in both mist and sun

Ha Ha! It looks like the Blackbird is laughing. Photo taken in the garden on a misty morning.

First European Jays seen this Fall, taken in wet conditions on a grey day.

Two Greenfinch  taken on a brighter morning.

Great-tit

Two captures of a European Blackbird.

Another European Jay.

Two captures of the Great Spotted Woodpecker. The female Woodpecker has been hanging around ever since she discovered the peanuts.

Two captures of a female Chafinch.

The Blue- tit.

To finish I am including this photo of a squirrel, as it is the first squirrel I have seen in months, photo taken on a misty morning in the garden.

Dear Sonjia :)

It's cery beautiful photos you have taken as always. Birds prefer to sit on branches, and the Blackbird looks like it laughs :)
The Blue Tit is so beautiful, and I love it's colors.
I'm so happy for you that the squirrel is back. They are so nice to watch.
Have a great day my dear friend.
Many warm hugs to you,
Marit

Such an atmospheric introduction, Sonjia! You had better get to work on your first novel - or perhaps even an idyll of nonfiction. Be sure to send me a signed copy so that I can brag to the world that I exchange hugs and kisses with a renowned author. You have all the elements to make the scenario interesting too, a British woman lured to Portugal by love, immersed in memory, with a deep love of the avifauna of her adopted land, and all other aspects of nature too. The book will be illustrated, of course, by your superb photographs, once again on display here, and there will be countless reprints of what will become a classic. I am breathless in anticipation. Hugs and kisses (didn’t I tell you?) - David

These are great photos. You have such variety there. I especially love the woodpecker. Those are among my favourite birds, after ducks, of course.

Those Europen jays are stunning. I've never seen anything like those before.

a few days Beau and I walked in the mist, but ours doens't rise from the ground, it drops from the sky. and it is also magical just like yours, and even prettier when the sun burns it off and points out the worlds beauty. I love your garden, so glad you have it to get out and enjoy.. the birds are so cute and beautiful and make me smile to see them.

What an amazing collection of captures. You really have an eye for a magical moment. As a new visitor to your site I cannot wait to see what else you will see to photograph. You must have an amazing piece of equipment with lots of different lens.My gear is very simple and here on the island I see fewer varieties than you. More sea birds perhaps than you but how you get so close to the subject with such clarity amazes me. Carry on clicking please.

Your garden sanctuary sounds enchanting, offering moments of calm in misty mornings and bursts of joy with the sun's warmth. The photos beautifully capture the magic of both mist and sunlight.

These are such beautiful photos of the birds, Sonjia.
The jay is a beautiful species that is also common here, just like the other species we see a lot here.
The jay is a shy bird, but I think its beautiful colors.
Greetings Irma

When I see a beautifully described and illustrated account, like this one from you Sonjia, of birds in someone's garden, I can't help but reflect on how disenfranchised are those millions of persons who do not have a garden to enjoy and raise their spirits. How lucky are those of us that do have a garden to inspire and sustain us.

Coming back to your lovely photographs, how I would love the opportunity to photograph woodpecker (of any species!) and Jay again in our garden - it has been far too long.

My very best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard

Hello Dear Sonjia 😊
After viewing all of your photos I’m sitting here thinking how much joy these little birds must bring into your life. I say that based on my own experience photographing birds. You may have noticed my photos of birds, on my blog, are usually captures made when I am lucky enough to catch them while perched nearby. I admire the variety of birds that visit your location and your ability to capture the interesting images. Thank you, Sonija, for sharing. Best regards to you from Seattle!

Hello thanks for visiting 1 of my 2 websites and nice comment where I also posted one in return for you. And I always come back and you also have a nice website because I also looked around a bit. But then you don't know I was there and now i leave a comment here. Always nice to get to know other bloggers. And yes what did I see ? it really is like the blackbird is smiling at you and probably saying with this that the day is so beautiful. But the beautiful jay also gives you a smile. He is glad you took his picture. They are here but then I have to walk a little further and I can't do that now with this weather. We have a lot of wind and rain here in Nl so I am entertaining myself indoors with other things like reading and watching beautiful blogs like yours.

The greenlings I met once in forest where I like to go hiking but at a distance.I also saw a beautiful squirrel.super that it saw you. They are usually too quick for me. Entire blog I enjoyed it too. For now nice weekend and also added your url to reading list so I will automatically receive your new one again. Greetings, Tine

I can almost hear your birds singing in the shrubbery around your house. When we were in Kentucky the other day, there were birds singing everywhere. Now that we are a little further north, we see and hear very few.

Hello Sonjia,
I have read all your visitors comments and they seem to have covered everything. As a new visitor I must say that you are very good at capturing that magic moment, but I understand that you used to be an artist which explains why you are so clever. I am a musician and have little chance to spend time on photography ,but from now on I will follow your blog with interest and perhaps learn something. I hope your operation wasn't anything too serious and you will make a full recovery.
