The Great Tit. Parus Major

Instead of insects I am sharing a pretty Great Tit for a change. It looks quite chubby.

I, and i suspect many other birders, have very few photos of Great Tits. Either they are too common to bother with or Great Tits are actually quite shy. I know which so I am impressed that you managed to get any pictures at all, never mind such excellent ones.

He (she?) seems to be the picture of good health and if one might be permitted an anthropomorphic moment, happy too! I am sure its appearance brought you great pleasure, Sonjia.

beautiful colors!! the tit is looking quite sharply dressed and the background in these images is so pretty!!

it does look a tad chubby or perhaps it is puffed out. i don't know if it is cold where you are!!

Hi Sonjia. These are delightful shots of the Great Tit. David, above, was uncertain as to whether this was a male or a female. I believe it is a male bird. The males have a much more broad black stripe down the front and I believe that the broader the stripe the more attractive they are to the females. The female's stripe is quite narrow.

Take great care, and stay safe - - - Richard

I agree with Jamie but it might just be a rather tubby juvenile. I expect you have observed it since and maybe it has slimmed down.

lovely shots of the great tit. Even if a common bird I find it hard to get good shots of it.
