Algarve and the Crested Lark.

Every so often in the late afternoon, we saw the Crested lark looking for his last meal of the day, often on the ground , but also perched on fences.

Well done Sonjia. I can't find even a sparrow to photograph at the moment. The wild life seems to have deserted southern England.

Isn't he a very handsome bird! These are wonderful images of him! I do believe he obliged you and posed so well for your camera!
My mother is visiting the Algarve this week and is enjoying the sunshine and warmth - double our temps at home! It is a beautiful change of scenery for her.
Best wishes!

This fellow was definitely strutting his stuff for you.

Very nice. I wonder if you get the similar looking Thekla Lark where you live? Where the two both occur they give me problems in separating them as they are so alike. Fortunately I think the two dont appear together in too many places and have slightly different habitat requirements.

I'm enjoying this post the 2nd time here....as much as I did the other day. Such a joy and such a joyful looking bird too. Love the crest.

I'm late getting here to visit with you, it's been a most beautiful day here in South Texas I just HAD to be outdoors this morning - birding, of course. Thanks so much for sharing this post with us at I'd Rather B Birdin'!! Always appreciated. Have a great week ahead.

I think the best thing about reading blogs are seeing birds I would never otherwise see!

Just back from a wonderful week on the Algarve where I saw many hoopoes and egrets plus some hawks but did not spot a crested lark. You must have a very keen eye for spotting what I assume is a fairly rare bird.

What a neat looking bird. I can see where it gets it's name by that "crest" on it's head. Great shots & I loved that it posed so nicely on the fence for you.

Great shots of an interesting species. I have seen many larks, mainly across Africa, but the memory of them merges into amorphous little brown birds unfortunately - with some exceptions, of course. Horned Lark is common here and migratory flocks are moving in to spend the winter.

The Crested Lark is a fairly common sight, if you know where to look for them.
