Algarve and the Stonechat.

The stonechat is a  sweet bird we encountered quite frequently on our walks in the Algarve. As it's name suggests, Stonechats utter a sharp loud call, that sounds like two stones being tapped together.

The male Stonechat.

It's a bird with which I am not familiar. Its plumage looks quite colourful and with the dark head, I am sure that I will recognise it if I spot it in this part of Sussex.

I especially like the photo on the fence! They remind me a bit of our bluebirds and of our American robins.

I've answered the questions about favorites, travel, personality, and faith on my blog...but still have to answer the ones about blogging, my life, and politics.

Stonechats are very charming birds that I see most often in Menorca during May. Just like your pictures, thay make themselves rather conspicuous by perching on fence posts or the tops of bushes. Like you say, even if we don't see them their "stone clicking" calls give them away.

Sweet photos...and your description of why they're named the stonechat makes it all the more charming. Love the colors.

Sharing this post was much appreciated for us birders this week at I'd Rather B Birdin'....for that, I thank you.
