Blue Bijou

Lang's Short.Tailed Bue
Leptotes pirithous (Lycaenidae)
Lang's Short.tailed Bue Butterfly rarely reveals it's upper wings, which are mainly violet.blue in the male, and more brown in the female. The barred underwings are marked by two colourful eyespots, and a long tail.It favours flower rich grassland.
The Lang's Short.tailed Blue is a powerful flier, and strong migrant. It's migrantory habits allow it to reach almost anywhere
within it's range.Common and widespread in the south of it's range, scarce further north.I have seen hundreds here this year.

Wow, what a beautiful butterfly and stunning pictures, Breathtaking. I saw on internet that this butterfly only lives in South Europe and not here in the Netherlands. I am glad that I can enjoy it on your blog. Greetings, Joke

Now that looks similiar to the one we have here....the difference is in the little black dots. Very cool. Nice shots....such a small flutter:)

Es una mariposa preciosa y las fotos son muy buenas. Especialmente me gusta la segunda foto, la mariposa se aprecia en toda su plenitud y parece que mira hacia la cámara :) Saludos.

I like the last photo too, however find these little butterflies extreemly difficult to photograph.
I could'nt get a shot of one with open wings, although there must be hundreds all over the garden. This will be my next challenge!! Do you see many in England?

Breathtaking said...

S Etole
Yes, their colour and design is
delicate, and the male's upper blue violet wings are very lovely too.

Thanks for passing by.:)

So pretty and delicate Sonjia and lovely with the pink flowers. As I'm sure you know we have blues here but not that particular one. Always such a pleasure to see all that beautiful sunlight you are blessed with there too.

Guardare queste foto è un momento magico!Quando passo da qui potrei pensare che la terra è già il paradiso!

Thank you,They are so fast moving
that I find these littleflutterers quite difficult to photograph.
There is a blue ring around the black spots which isn't visible on
the photo,...too much sunlight I guess.

Hola Sonia
Thank you!! It's a sweet little butterfly, and I'm so pleased you like the second photo, which I agree does show it more fully.
Sometimes I think they do look into the camera,or at me, looking at them. I wonder what they think!:)
