Woodland Woodpecker

The Great Spotted Woodpecker
The Great Spotted Woodpecker has a black head, and a black bar separates the white patch on the neck.
This is the first time I have ever seen a Woodpecker feeding with any bird. The conspicuous red rump always gets my attention, and I grap my camera and take the photos through the patio window, but the quality is poor.
The Juvenile has red crown
The peanuts lure the Woodpeckers to my garden, but the swinging motion on the feeder, is a bit of a problem!!
I will be taking a short break as from next week.

It's always a pleasure when I visit you.If I haven't stopped by so often it's because I've been feeling sooo tired recently. That is why I will be taking a blogging break very soon.

They are of excellent quality and very hard to do. Who knows these animals know how long it takes to achieve such a result. Excellent. Congrats. kisses

Great shots, Breathtaking, despite of the motion of the feeder. This woodpecker is so close, I have never seen that myself. It is nice when you have the opportunity to make stunning and artistic pictures, but the real joy is to enjoy the moment. Have a nice day. Greetings, Joke

Thank you Joke! You are ofcourse absolutely right. The excitement of getting these shots was tremendous.
More often than not theWoodpeckers are gone in a flash of red, black, and white, so the waiting for just the right moment, was a thrill in itself.
Enjoy your day.
Sonjia.

It's amazing that the bird arrived while you were still swinging from the feeder and yet you produced some great shots. x

You are being hard on yourself Sonjia, I don't think the quality of these photos is poor at all, I would be thrilled to have taken them :-) Such a lovely bird, I love the photo showing the contrast in size between it and the Coal? Tit. I have had a GSW visit my garden a couple of times but only ever managed a very poor record photo.

I also liked the photo of the pigeons on the previous post with their beautifully coloured plumage, we have quite an army of Feral Pigeons regularly visiting the garden and although they are terribly greedy they do clear up all the bits that drop from the feeders :-)

Enjoy your break Sonjia, I hope you find it very relaxing and restorative.

Hola Sonjia :) Son unas fotos tomadas con mucha pericia por tu parte. Especialmente me gusta la foto de las dos aves compartiendo el alimento, parece que reinaba la armonía entre ambas.
Un cálido abrazo. Sonia.

Perhaps I am being a little too hard on myself, because I was very pleased to finally get some still shots. My daughter Eva teased me on this post because she knows how many Woodpecker photos I have thrown away.:)

Yes it is a Coal Tit on the feeder the most common bird in my garden. I am so pleased you liked my previous post, but now it's time to
have a rest, and perhaps a change.
Thank you so much for your good wishes.:)

Hola Sonia:)Thank you so much. I have waited a very long time to get these stills.I am delighted that you like them, and I also like the one of the two birds feeding together in harmony.

I will not be visiting for a while but will see you on my return.
Warmest Regards.

Absolutely!! Although I see many Woodpeckers, I have never seen so much red on a Woodpecker as in the first photo.

I will be leaving tomorrow for a
short break,so will see you on my return.:)

These are really great shots. I saw these feeders in the pet shop and was wondering how on earth is it possible for the woodpecker to get the nut out.
