FLOWERS BIRDS and SQUIRRELS

This week was sunny and I spent some time in the back garden with my camera enjoying photographing flowers I also had a siesta after lunch lieing down on my swinging sofa, with my camera close at hand, and I surrepititiously took quite a few photos of the birds and squirrels that frequent my balcony.

This will be my last post for a while because early next week I am finally going to have the cataract surgery I desparately need. I will be operated on both eyes, which I found to be unusual, but the doctor said it had become common practice  these days.

I have no idea how long it will take for me to recover but should it take longer than a few weeks, you will know the reason why, now back to my post.

The Mountain Laurel will soon be in full flower, but is pretty in bud.

She has seen me but feels fairly safe because I'm lieing down at the other end of
the balcony and squirrels are bolder than most other visitors anyway.

The lizard eats the tiny crumbs on the balcony floor.

I am delighted that the robin is still feeding it's chicks with mealworm.

The Great-spotted Woodpecker is very cautious and shy, and as I don't want it to
stop coming to my balcony I would rather watch it whilst hiding than risk it flying away if it sees me or my camera move. I managed to take this photo but as it moved onto my balcony, I left it alone.

I never knew until this year that the blackbird picks up a peanut in it's shell
from the ledge where I place them in a row for the Jays, and flies away with it. I have seen this happen twice, and been amazed as the blackbird usually eats crumbs from the ground where I deliberately sprinkle them especially for the blackbird.

I will be linking up with Eileen at "Saturday's Critters," a fun place to visit if you love all creatures great and small. Just click on the icon , and it will take you there.

Dear Sonjia,
What a wonderful series of photos you were able to take from your balcony.
The different types of flowers are very beautiful.
I think the squirrel is cute; I love squirrels.

I also had cataract surgery twice. For the first two days, the light is harsh on your eyes, so I would wear sunglasses.
You do have to use eye drops for 6 weeks, but after two days you can already see well again. That was the case for me; I didn't have cataracts but glaucoma, which is why they performed the surgery on me.
I have to keep using eye drops for the rest of my life, and with two types, one twice a day and the other when I go to sleep.
I wish you a very good weekend and strength for the surgery, it's really not that bad, that was my experience.
All the best, Irma

I do so much like squirrels - when I travel and see them I tend to get a bit over excited!

Cataract surgery on both eyes seems to be getting ever more common, Sonjia, so don’t worry about a thing. I am sure they will fit you up with a great new set of headlamps so you will see everything with greater clarity and take even better pictures. We will all be thinking of you, even the squirrels and the robins! Hugs and kisses - David

You have some absolutely gorgeous flowers in your world right now! And pretty cute birds and squirrels. Sending all good wishes for your cataract surgery. I've never heard of doing both on the same day (ours were scheduled two weeks apart) but it will be nice to get it over. I didn't find the recovery time too long or too annoying -- eye drops for a bit but not long. I know it will be a piece of cake for you!

Gorgeous flowers, love that fence and all photos are beautiful. would love to swing in your garden.. prayers for your cataract surgery and doing both is common here, but since I am on HMO they would not approve it, had to do it 3 months apart.

Hi Sonjia, What a neat post this is with some beautiful shots taken from your balcony. You got some great close-ups, and believe me, I know how tricky it can be to get those sharp images. Best wishes on your cataract surgery. I had mine about 7 years ago and the surgery really was short and painless. The recovery takes a few days and lots and lots of eyedrops! 😊 I’ll bet you are going to be amazed at how much better your vision will be. Thank you for sharing and have a great weekend! John

It's fantastic that you have so many beautiful flowers on your balcony. It really is a joy to be around such a cheerful environment and view. I also enjoyed your squirrels, the beautiful dragonflies, and of course the many flowers again. I even saw a lizard scurrying around :-)

I read that you are having surgery on both eyes (I don't know if they do that in the Netherlands too), but I wish you a speedy recovery.

Warm regards, Helma
