EUROPEAN ROBIN Erithacus rubecula

The male and female European Robins, or just robins, are identical, but the juveniles are brown with golden brown spots. The vibrant red breast of the robin is a lovely sight however my balcony is in deep shade when it appears so it's not seen at it's best. It is the first bird to appear on my balcony and I hear it's song long before I open the shutters. Although they are fiercely territorial. thankfully I have never seen signs of aggression. A robin will fly to the ledge, hop along to the wooden feeder then fly down to the ground for crumbs. I wish I could photograph one in a natural setting, but those moments are few and far between. These are all I have to share.

Dear Sonjia,
What beautiful pictures of the robin.
This species is very territorial and does not tolerate other robins in the area, they chase each other away but or they fight is also unknown to me, I have never seen it either.
I wish you a beautiful Thursday.
Greetings Irma

What splendid pictures, Sonjia. I have travelled the world in search of birds and I have seen the garish, the colourful, the beautiful and the not-so-beautiful, birds large and small, storks that soar with the grace of angels, and hawks that take life with deadly accuracy. I have seen birds on the ground, in the water and in the air. I have seen birds in towns, cities, in the countryside, in quiet woodlands and deep, dark forests. I have seen birds hover on tiny wings, I have seen albatrosses and eagles soaring on wings like planks. But in all this incredible variety, each one magnificent and perfect, none is quite so endearing as the little European Robin, that little Robin Redbreast so loved by all. Thank you for the privilege of its company today. Hugs and kisses - David

It's a joy to see your beautiful photos of the robin.
Thank you so much.
Best wishes to you.
It's 7 degrees Celsius today. It's probably warmer where you are. However, it's supposed to reach 20 degrees Celsius on Sunday, and I'm really looking forward to it.
Best greetings from Viola

Hello Sonjia. Long time no see. I think we hibernated from the cold but now we are are on the way back to summer and today we sat out in the garden and watched our own Robin flitting around the conifers. I know there is a nest close by. I forgive you for the name change as my own eyes are not good, I went to the opticians this week and he forbade me from driving until my new improved specs are ready. Old age and poverty!!

I had never seen a European robin until last October when we were in England. They are so dainty compared to our big ones! Lovely photos, Sonija!

Hello Dear Sonjia, First of all, I’ll bet you love David M. Gascoigne’s comment as much as I do. Of all the birders I’ve encountered in the blogosphere, David is one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished. As I was scrolling through your photos of the sweet European Robin, I couldn’t stop thinking how each image conveyed such a wonderful feeling of nature’s ability to create beauty. Thank you, Sonjia, for sharing and thank you for your kind comments on my blog. Wishing you happy days ahead! John

Hello Sonjia,
I just love the cute Eurasian Robin, it is a beautiful bird.
Great series of photos. I was happy to see this bird on my trip to Ireland. It is one of my favorites. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post. Take care, have a great weekend.

...Sonjia, you have this cute little bird well. Our yard is full of robin searching for worms, for us they are a welcomed sign of spring. Take care and be well.

I agree with all the comments about how lovable those European robins are … much more endearing than the larger namesake American bird. One of my favorite photos that I ever captured is a robin with its little beak open, singing its heart out, which I took in the garden of the asylum where VanGogh was a patient (now a museum).

Dear Sonjia, I LOVE robins! They're simply adorable birds, and I'm always happy whenever I see one. You've taken some great photos of your cute robin visitors! 😍
We rarely see them here, but this year, every now and then, a robin (maybe several, but I only ever see one at a time) comes to our garden feeder. I keep trying to photograph them, but most of the photos are blurry and, because of the screen door in our patio door, they're just bad—but last week I actually managed to get a halfway decent photo. I'll feature it in my blog at the next opportunity—I'm at the moment showing the last part of my travel recap in my blog now.
I hope you're well!
Hugs and all the best from Austria, Traude

Robins are such a charming sight, even if they don’t show off their colors perfectly in the shade. It’s cool that you get to hear their song before even seeing them—feels like they’re calling out to you. Even if you don’t get the perfect photo, just watching them must be peaceful in itself.

These are lovely pictures Sonjia. You have captured the colours beautifully. I love the way Robins always appear when ever I am digging. I like to think they are being friendly, but I think in reality they would be attracted to any animal that is disturbing the ground and possibly exposing food!
