October weather has been foul, plummeting from the 30 degree temperatures we had been enjoying to a mere 8 degrees, accompanied by violent storms, electricity cuts as power lines are down. This has been a source of harassment for me and for the cable men who are having to cope with the torrential rain and high winds. The heavy rainfall flooded houses and other roadside establishments and even some hospitals were affected by flooding and patients had to be transferred to other hospitals. Living as I do on a mountainside this did not affect me, but trees were uprooted on the property and the rain has prevented me from taking photos and going out on the balcony. My swing has been covered and zipped up securely probably until next Spring. Days are dark, and my old bones do not work well in this climate. However music has entered my life again to my eternal gratitude because since my husband's demise two years and six months ago, I have not been able to listen to music, but last week whilst Eva and I, were cleaning out drawers and cupboards, Eva found a small transistor radio which had belonged to my late husband and it was in working order so Eva put it on my bedside table, One evening I decided to listen to the news, but instead my room was filled with beautiful orchestral music and thankfully, that horrid psychological barrier that had shut down my desire to listen to "our" music fell apart, and since then I have started to enjoy our favourite pieces of music again and it feels both soothing intoxicating and healing.
In September I did take a few photos on my balcony and in the garden. I have now finished the physiotherapy for my wrist and arm, and can do most things I couldn't do before. Even open the front door.:=)
There have been several visits from Greenfinches on my balcony.

Hello Sonjia, Hope you are keeping well, the small birds are good visitors to your garden. I wish I had some, but I have a neighbour who likes noisy dogs so birds don't stay long with me. Take care,
Mike.
I am glad you found music again. Such a wonderful addition to one’s life. Good news about your wrist too. Great photos!
I am so glad that your wrists and arms are functioning again. The view from your balcony is amazing! Those little creatures are just gorgeous.
What a great series of photos these are Sonjia.
The blue tit stole my heart.
I enjoyed your photos.
Great that you have finished the physiotherapy for your arm.
My frozen shoulder is now doing a little better, not as much pain anymore, but still limited in movements.
Greetings Irma
Dear Sonjia,
I'm so happy that you are able to listen to music again. I understand your sorrow, and music brings back many memories. I love to see your beautiful photos. I have the same birds here in my garden despite our very different climate. I'm sorry to read about the weather challenges in your area. Today it's snow in the air here, and that's ok.
Best wishes and many hugs to you!
Hello Sonjia,
I am so glad your wrist and arm is feeling better!
Lovely captures of your garden birds, the Greenfinch is adorable.
I love the colorful berries and your pretty flowers.
I hope your weather improves. Take care, have a great day!
Hello, Sonjia: I am sorry to hear that you have been having such foul weather, but there is much good news in this report too. First of all your wrist has healed and you are now able to perform all the simple tasks the pain had made impossible. I mean, opening the front door is a pretty basic requirement in life! That you have rediscovered the music you enjoyed with your husband is perhaps the best news of all. Sometimes our minds are not our friends, and it is good that whatever psychological barrier erected itself in your mind has been dismantled. Musician is such a vital part of life and I don’t know what I would do without it from the joyful songs of birds, to the peace conferred by the slow movement from Beethoven’s Ninth, to the sublimity of Arvo Paert. And Greenfinches on your balcony too. Life is good! Pucker up and get ready to receive the big kiss heading your way from Canada - David
I can only imagine what you are going through but am happy to read that you found music again. The coal-tit looks like our chickadee.
I like small birds best of all birds and both these tits make me smile and want to nestle them in my hands. so happy you can not open your door. ha ha... a skill much needed. oh no on the horrid weather and the cold temps. i do not like cold or rain. It is fantastic you can now listen to the music you love. there are not many transistor radios left these days. Daddy had his own all day long when he lived along so many years, he liked to listen to preachers preaching.
I'm sorry to learn that you too have been having the foul weather that it seems much of Europe has been suffering from. We too have had bad weather and, at one point, water was lapping round our back door, but we didn't have a problem. However, many people only 15 km from here had to evacuate because of flooding.
It seems to me that your good news more than compensates for your horrible weather. It must be a great relief to you to have a funtioning wrist once more - just take care that it doesn't happen again! I was also delighted to learn that you feel able to enjoy music once more. Music has always played an important part in my life, although I suspect that my taste in music might differ from yours!
How lucky you are to have such delightful birds visit your balcony. Your balcony must be a very special place. I have very much enjoyed you beautiful photos.
Best wishes - stay safe - - - Richard
Birds are so beautiful. Have a nice evening.
Hello Sonija 😊
Your description of the abrupt shift in October weather, from warm temperatures to chilly storms and power outages, is a vivid portrayal of the challenges you've faced recently. It's clear that these weather disruptions have been a source of inconvenience and concern, not just for you but also for those working hard to restore services in difficult conditions.
The impact of heavy rainfall, flooding, and the need to transfer patients from flooded hospitals paints a stark picture of the challenges faced by your community. It's fortunate that your mountainside location spared you from the flooding, although it's disheartening to hear about the uprooted trees and how the rain has affected your ability to engage in activities you enjoy.
Amid these dark days, your discovery of your late husband's transistor radio is a poignant moment. The fact that it still works and brought beautiful orchestral music into your room is truly heartwarming. Music has the remarkable ability to soothe, uplift, and heal, and it's touching to hear how it has rekindled a connection to cherished memories and brought comfort during this time of transition.
Your story reminds me of the power of music to bridge emotional barriers and provide solace during challenging times. It's a testament to the enduring impact of shared experiences and the healing power of art. Lastly, I am delighted to hear, at last, you can again open the front door. 😊
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. As always, it is a pleasure to visit your blog. Sending you kind regards from Seattle!
John
They really are breathtaking!
So great to see so many wonderful birds here.
Dear Sonjia, uff, you're back - I was worried about you because of the long absence from the blog!
What you say about your weather and the problems associated with it sounds unpleasant. But I see once again that something positive can come from this: Without these unpleasant weather conditions, your husband's small transistor radio probably wouldn't have ended up on your bedside table and it would have taken a long time before you could listen to and enjoy your music again. I can understand such psychological barriers - but I'm happy for you that you've overcome it. May the music continue to bring you beautiful, healing times in the cold, damp season. And I'm also happy that your wrist has made such good progress through physiotherapy. The photos you took in September are wonderful. Do male and female great tits differ in the width of the stripe on their chest? Unfortunately, blue tits hardly ever visit us here in the garden, but I have seen them from time to time in the surrounding forest... they are so cute! Greenfinches have been visiting us more and more since last year.
All the best and as cozy autumn days as possible, Traude

I am so glad you have been able to let music into your life again. After a significant loss like that, there are many things that are just too emotionally difficult to deal with for a long time, even when you love them. It's a huge step and I'm so glad you have been able to take it.
I hope your weather eases soon and stays that way and I'm glad you haven't been more immediately affected with your home location as it is.. You certainly wouldn't know from the fabulous photos -- those birds are just remarkable. That blue-tit is so dear-- I've never seen one in "person."
And three cheers for the end of physio! That has to be a huge relief!
Dear Sonjia, Thank you for all your news. I am so glad that your arm and wrist are getting better. Your captures are, as ever, excellent.Your birds even look healthier that the few I see in my garden. Music, as you know, has always been a big part of my life, so I am so happy for you that you have been able to "reconnect" The latest news musically is I am going to a Big Band Weekend to hear Chris Dean who now leads the Syd Lawrence Orchestra who play all those great dance tunes you and I used to dance to.
It's wonderful that the birds make a stop at your balcony so they can visit and you can enjoy them. The blue daisy flowers are such a pretty sight. I love music, it sooths my soul so I'm glad you are enjoying it again. Take care and I hope the weather improves for you.
Hello Sonjia,
I hope your weather has calmed down now. I would be a happy birdwatcher sitting on your balcony, watching your garden birds. They are beautiful.
I would love to see the Greenfinch. Both the Coal Tit and the Blue Tit are adorable. Pretty nature photos and beautiful bird photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment!
...Sonjia, you come up with such a lovely collection, I wish that I had the patience. The acorns are beautiful and I only eat mushrooms from the store! Take care and be well.
Lovely images Sonjia. I feel your pain with the weather. It's been miserable here too. Nice that you've been able to see birds from your balcony though.
Such cute birdies!
Your presentation of your sadness and your lovely photos makes a very poignant blog post. I appreciate your creativity in putting these thoughts together.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I'm sorry to hear about the rough weather in your area. Your photos of the birds and nature are a lovely reminder of the beauty that surrounds us, even in challenging times.
Hi Sonjia
Your birds are really fantastic, and the mushroom, let's like grow blessed.
Your photos are always so wonderful especially with birds we don't see here.
I'm glad you have rediscovered the joy of music.
I enjoyed seeing your delightful series of photos, Sonjia.
So glad that your wrist and arm are on the mend.
Hugs and blessings
Certain music does speak to us in otherworldly ways. Good to hear how you got the magic back. :)
I am so happy to hear you are able to enjoy music again. Certain songs really do trigger our memories but music can soothe us too. Love your pretty birds...they make me smile!
Hello Sonjia. It's good to hear how you refound music after so long without. I love those pictures of Greenfinch, a much neglected species. I'm not sure about the flycatcher ID, I think it's a warbler but a different view or two would help. Sorry about your weather and I share your dislike of wind and rain.
Gracias y besos.
What a lovely line of scenes with birds. I enjoyed very much. Especially the Blue-tit seems posing at the third shot. Wonderful ...
Greetings by Heidrun
Happy Halloween!
Oh your birds are just wonderful -- I wish we had Greenfinch here -- they are so sweet. They all are of course and I would be happy if I could get a picture as good as yours of any bird at all!! ..... I am so happy that you can love your music once again.
Hi Sonjia,
When life gets rough, I have a tendency to forget music. Seems the opposite of what is better, but it is what it is. Just lately I've let the piano music of Bernward Koch fill my empty hours. It's like melting into relaxsation When I listen to him.
While I don't know what it's like loosing a partner in death, I do know the heartache of death, and it warms my heart that you are again sharing with yourself the music you both loved.
Sorry about your extreme weather that is difficult to live with at times. I definitely know what that is like. As always, no matter the season, your photos are beautiful. I have no idea what that nut photo is of because the leaves are all wrong for any oak I've seen (maybe a hickory?), but it brings me joy. You are such a lovely person to know in your posts and comments.
A nice selection of photographs, the blue tit is such a pretty looking bird.
All the best Jan
Querida Sonjia me llena de alegría saber que estas recuperada y que de nuevo puedes escuchar música .Me encantan las fotos, las aves son preciosas. Abrazos
