Pictures of autumn birds.

Hello everyone, A belated HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all. I hope you enjoyed yourselves, and managed to spend it with your family or friends.

I am feeling much better, after a very scary, and worrying time when I gradually began to loose my sight. At first I thought it must be eye strain, but as my eyes became even more blurred, and it became impossible for me to read or write, and then I began to see double. I knew something was seriously wrong, and after a visit to my doctor, where she did some tests, and at one point I told her that she had four eyes!! It was then that she sent me to a hospital in Oporto, where I was seen by various ophthalmologists  and neurologists had a scan and it was discovered that I have an illness in my right eye, but I was told it had nothing to do with my present condition and it would be seen to in due course. At last the  Ophthalmologist I saw last, asked me to tell her again what medication I was taking. It turns out that I was experiencing the ill effects of a drug I had been taking for the problematic sciatic pain, which was working wonders, and easing the pain, enabling me to get outdoors and walking again, for the first time in months. My heart sank, as she told me to stop taking it for a while to see if I improved. When I told her of my sciatic condition, she looked up what was available with a minor dosage, and suggested I take the same pain killer which was only half the mg that I had been taking before. I am so thankful for my eyes have cleared and I'm not seeing double any more and what is even more astonishing is that the sciatic pain is also under control. Hurrah!! I feel blessed, so much so that I decided to return to blogging with some autumn pictures of a few birds.

when i started to read your story I started to fret because losing my sight if the biggest fear of my life. by the end of the story I was so happy for you that you got your sight back and did not have to deal with the sciatic pain. indeed this is going to make your new year HAPPY. sweet little birds, awesome photos. welcome back.... bob just had a crazy side effect to his new pill, and had to stop the pill. massive hiccups, all day all night, we stopped the pill and not one since then

Extremely pleased to hear that you've got to the root of your sight problems, Sonjia. I hope that all continues to improve for you.

I hope that you don't mind me asking but was, by any chance, the medication that you were taking Naproxen? I too have noticed a significant deterioration in my eyesight over the past twelve months, although nothing nearly as serious as yours, and this blog post from you got me looking at the pain-management medication (Naproxen) that I've been taking for a couple of years, and I now see that 'changes in vision' is listed as a common side-effect!

It's good to see you back with your delightful photography, and Coal Tit and Blue Tit are always a pleasure to see.

My best wishes to you for 2022 - stay safe - - - Richard

I'm so glad they figured out the solution and gave you a good alternative. Drugs are so strong and can do so many things to our bodies but are needed at times. Take care! Love your sweet little bird. Happy new year!

Good Morning and a Happy New Year to you and your family Sonjia. I was so pleased to read your latest good news. A second opinion is always a good idea if in these worrying times we can even get one. I hope everything remains good for you. Sue suffers from sciatica at times so I know how painful it can be.

love your shots of the blue and coal tits. Both beautiful birds.
Wow, I am so happy your problems are under control. I would be really unhappy not to see properly. I have problems but not with sickness in my eyes. But I am constantly changing glasses. :)

Taek care!

I'm glad there wasn't any serious illness with your eyes, and the pain is also under control even after the reduction of mg! Anyone would have been scared to experience bad eyesight all of a sudden because eyes are important to see the beautiful things around us. Excellent capture of the little birds! I wish you a very happy and healthy new year.
Take care

I am very sorry to hear you had this health issue. Side effects from medicines can be very scary, and I am glad those meds were changed around to where you now feel much better. Your birds are absolute little darlings, and those are great photos. I am wishing you A Very Happy and Healthy New Year. May it bring only good things into your life.
