On the bottom right hand corner, you can see the Gull's shadow as he flies away |
Head first, as always! |
The Heron will swallow the fish whole.... |
tilting his head, to do so. |
There it goes!! |
You can actually see the fish going down. |
It was an easy steal for the Heron. |
He just stood there for a while, digesting his meal I guess, and ... |
looking out to sea... |
Satisfied with his cheeky snatch. |

Wonderful sequence! Often the gulls are the pirates in these cases of kleptoparasitism so I guess this one got his comeuppance! That fish would have done for a family of four of us!
Wow! Nice pictures and a good shutter speed. I am a little surpised that the egret won a contest with a gull especially if it was one of your Yellow-legged Gulls. I guess it wouldn't argue with that dagger-like bill.
Hello, what an awesome sequence of photos. Watching the egret swallow that big fish is amazing. Great photos and post. Thank you so much for linking up your post. I appreciate your visit and comment too. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend.
Beautifully captured!...
that is more then a mouthful. Hard to understand how it works but interesting to see the shots :)
Cheeky snatch has me rolling on the floor with laughter.. I love these shots. the ones with the fish long ways in the mouth beak are AMAZING!!!!
Well done, you have caught a Little Egret, feeding itself. Hard to believe that she/he swollen the large fish.
WHAT AN AWESOME SERIES!!!! your images are nothing short of amazing!! big fish for this guy, but then again, he does not seemed challenged by it!! down the hatch and back to wading!! i love the little wisp on the back of it's head!!
i so enjoyed this as i am sure you did as well!! so good to be visiting you again, have a wonderful weekend!!!
...what a fabulous series of shots, I've never seen a white heron before. Thanks!
Hi. Really big fish. At one time, the stomach is full.
Huge fish for bird. Superb photos. Happy weekend.

Hi Sonjia,
Nice to see you busy again and with such a good set of shots. Take care Mike.
Amazing fish that heron ate! Amazing images too!
It is amazing what they can swallow...if you look around on youtube, you won't believe your eyes. Wonderful to see this series...maybe he was too full/heavy to fly away.

What a great series of dining at the egret's favorite eatery! Stunning action photography.
I want to thank you for showing us at I'd Rather B Birdin' your weekend photos!! Your paticipation is always greatly appreciated.
I am a little confused. Was it an Egret or a Heron? It looks like an Egret to me. Either way an absolutely stunning series of shots.

The Little Egret is a pure white Heron.
Wow!!!.. amazing sequence you have captured.. Congrats..
Muy bonitas fotografías. Un beso.
Fabulous shots!
You are an amazing photographer Sonjia!!!! SO clear and "Breathtaking"!!!! It's so hard to believe how they swallow the fish....and you were able to get the shot!!!
I suppose it is easier to eat such a large fish headfirst than tailfirst .... you wouldn't want it to get stuck, now would you? Thanks for sharing this delightful series of pictures!
Not often that gulls lose these kinds of battles! Great set of pictures.

The Heron is a great fisher! I wonder how long that fish will keep the Heron filled until the next feed.
WOW what a meal. I had a Brown Pelican that I shared on here last year and the fish it got...never could get it down and passed the entire fish around to it's mates and it was too big for all of them. This is a fun series to see~
What a wonderful series of photographs - just fantastic.
All the best Jan
What a super sequence of the Egret with the fish, Sonjia! I always find it amazing just how large a prey these birds can swallow.
It's great to see you back in 'bloggerland'. With my very best wishes to you for 2018 - - - Richard
This is a wonderful series! What a fun thing to witness ... thank you for sharing! That is a very pretty Egret too!
I remember reading a story about a wicked Heron long time back. Now I've seen it.
