The Bee Eater Merops apiaster They catch insects in flight, often high up in the air. |
The Bee Eaters plumage has very brilliant colours, though these are not especially luminous, therefore usually require a perched bird, and moderate range to be fully enjoyed. . |
We had parked the car, just off the main dirt road where their nests were, and I waited behind the trunk, before I finally got lucky and took a series of shots of not only one, but two Bee Eaters. |
Fortunately they liked to perch out in plain sight, on fences, and on old lichen covered trees. |

The Bee Eater is quite an attractive bird!
Those are just super Bee Eater pics. Of course we saw them every day in Menorca where they are rather shy. It's only be staying in a car close to a colony or overhead wires that I can get pictures. Didn't get any this year because of my broken 400mm! But I'm working on it.
I'm so pleased you are feeling btter now that the warm weather has arrived. it must be 25 degrees or more by now?
What a great looking bird this is.........

Amazing birds!
So colorful! I've never seen one of those.
Lovely to see you in April. The birds I saw fleetingly, which I thought were bee-eaters, may not have been, because I do not recall seeing such brightly coloured plumage. As usual, you have waited for the moment and captured some wonderful images. I love your photography and wish I could have shared a photographing trip with you. Maybe one day?!
Welcome back to blogging world! Glad that you had a wonderful break. The bee eater bird is beautiful with its colourful feathers. Looking forward to see your holiday postings.
Hi Sonjia. So pleased to hear that the warmth of the Algarve has alleviated your problems - I hope that the benefits are lasting.

Great to hear from you again Sonjia. I love your pictures of the Bee Eaters. They remind me of my childhood in the Camargue. I have never been able to get close to them recently on our holidays to take photographs. I think a bit of local knowledge is needed!!
