Mosaic Magic

The Marsh Fritillary
Euphydryas cynthia ( Nymphalide )

The Marsh Fritillary is such a colourful butterfly, with markings just as attractive on it's underwings but in subdued colours. It's wings are narrow by fritillary standards, and often open when sun basking.Wingspan is 4,5-5,2cm. It favours marchy ground, but also moorland up to 2,000m. As you can see, this one is basking on the arm of a garden chair.

Very nice pictures of this fritillary!
I am amazed you got the Tree creeper at your feeder!
I only have a glimpse at them along tree trunks...
Cheers!

Quite true! I'm sure many artists
take their inspiration from nature.

So nice to see you here Noushka:)

Thank you, the fritillary in question is quite a slow lazy butterfly,so I got really close and these photos were a doddle!

Not so, for the tree creeper, but fortunately they do come to the feeders occasionally.I have tried to capture them unsuccessfully on tree trunks but they are deceptively fast little movers.

We are still getting lots of rain but in sunny intervals, as if by magic the butterflies appear.

So nice to see you here Victor:)

Sadly it's life is transitary, but through photography butterflies live on, and their beauty can be admired long after they have died.

This is absoltely beautiful, like a lighted tiffany lamp. Its rather furry for a butterfly - must be due to the cold.

Love the Fritillary family. There are so many variations and they are quite spectacular butterflies:) I'm so glad they're back again. Winter is nice but summer does bring out the color in our gardens and wildlife:)
