A Warbler

The Blackcap
Sylvia atricapilla

Because the Blackcap usually keep well concealed, they don't really stay long enough on the bird tale or feeders, for me to get really good shots of them, however I was pleased to get any shot at all, so here they are.Black cap distinguishes the male and reddish brown cap the female. Juvenile resembles the female. They breed in woods, parks and gardens.

I agree with you Keith.Their rippling babble, and powerful Fluted notes are just beautiful.

His song is beautiful and operatic as it has a melancholy ring towards the end.
It's probably singing feed me, feed me before I starve to death!!!

Thank you Linda,.. he is pretty cute!!

S. Etole

Probably singing for his supper!!
They love the raisin and wallnut cake mix I make for them.

Hi Adam!
It's a lovely bird, and in the first picture does look cute.

Thank you Maria:)
I also love it's sooty black crown and slate grey to brown upper parts and pale grey underparts.

I will be there to see all your wonderful photos, very soon.It
has been a pleasure to see it's development.

Susan
Thank you Sue! I hope to get some better shots of the Blackcap in the spring, for you to see his true beauty, as these shots really don't do him justice.

In spite of the brief visit, you manage to shoot two very good shots. I'm amused by the way it cocked its head to eye the food proffered. I supposed they can never be too cautious.

You really do get some great birds coming to your feeder.......

Stiletto
Thank you for saying the shots are good! He was probably thinking...
What!! No raisins left!!:)

Breathtaking said...

It's very true Stuart. At least fifteen different species which are regular visiters.

Well I think they are lovely captures Sonjia. I always look forward to seeing them in my garden in the Winter. I was watching a male on the feeders just a couple of days ago. You do get such wonderful light in your photos...sigh! Raisin and Walnut cake sounds rather nice ;-)

Breathtaking said...

ShySongbird

Thank you Jan:) We do seem to see many of the same birds in our gardens.

Although the cake does attract birds to the feeders, and they certainly make short work of it,I have often wondered if it's the best thing for them!!! There is also plenty of sunflower feed mix in other feeders and a corn mix that we scatter on the ground for the doves and wood pigeons, but they all seem to prefer the wallnut and raisin cake!!:)
