Caterpiller Charm

I have hesitated in posting this caterpiller, because I don't know if it's a moth or butterfly caterpiller, so don't know it's name. There are so many different ones, and it's been very difficult to identify.

Not quite what I love the most, but your ability to shoot pictures ,dear sonija, makes it a pleasure to my eyes too!

Let's hope it's a butterfly one because his coloring would make a beautiful butterfly.....

Those little spiky hairs are interesting....

Mostly I am not charmed of caterpillars. But thinking of butterflies it becomes another story. Great images, Sonjia. I am a bit jealous of you because of that lovely sunny weather that I can see on your pictures. Next week we will get in the Netherlands frost in the night again. Wish you a great new week. Greetings, Joke

Such a colorful one.

I have similiar caterpillars in my garden too. I noticed that the hairy ones tend to be smaller than the smooth skin ones. There is much detail that is captured by you.

I think it's rather beautiful Sonjia and your photos of it are lovely. I wondered about a Red Admiral butterfly although I can't remember if you have them there. I'm not very knowledgeable about caterpillars and as you say it could even be a moth rather than butterfly. Do let us know if you ever find out, it's very intriguing :-)

They came out really sharp, with no out-of-focus areas. These are very good macros.

lovely markings but what spikes!!!!!

TexWisGirl

Yes, so do I Theresa:) Those little tufts of hair were hardly noticable before enlarging the photo. I think the fringe could do with a trim:)

We had a frost this morning so that would have made his hairs stand out if he had been here! You and you photos are a breath of Spring.

Good morning Rita:)

I understand that they are not everyones cup of tea, but thank you for such a lovely compliment:)

Nancy
It certainly has nice markings and colour, and would as you say make a lovely butterfly,.. without the hair!!

Juan Garcia

Thank you Juan! I also think your photos are great, taken with a camera that I also use sometimes.

Nava

We have had some rain but the light is great on sunny days. I'm so pleased you think it's a fun picture. I love his little red prolegs and hairy tufts.

Thank you for your visit Nava:)

Juliana
Thank you Juliana:)It's a tactile creature, if you like caterpillers.

Breathtaking said...

Joke (Jokes Camera)

I guess caterpillers are more facinating than beautiful. Each to his own!!

There are signs of spring every where, and when I'm out and about I already see so many butterflies, which is quite unusual.

Take heart Joke, the frost you are getting wont last, and once again I will be able to see your beautiful photos of butterflies, as well as your excellent winter
mist and frost pictures:)

S. Etole
Yes indeed,a lovely colour. Hope he escaped the birds attention!!

Stiletto

I agree with you that the smooth ones do seem to be larger than the
hairy caterpillers. So pleased you like the detail in this small one:)

Hi!!!.. Beautiful pictures.. Congrats and regards..

ShySongbird
Thank you Jan:) It is a very attractive little caterpiller, and ofcourse I will let you know if I ever find out what kind it is.

We do have Red Admirals here, but I don't think it is a Red Admiral caterpiller as the hairs are slightly different.

Maria

Thank you Maria for your very nice comment:)

Thank you Len:) Spring is definately in the air here with very sunny days, and lots of bees and butterflies everywhere. Sorry about the frost you are having.

I can't tell you, all I do know, it is beautiful. Great photos.

Mimo, że gąsienice są ładne, to wolę piękne motyle. Pozdrawiam.
Although the tracks are nice, I prefer the beautiful butterflies. Yours.

Breathtaking said...

Bob Bushell
Thank you Bob:) Perhaps I'll find out one day!

Breathtaking said...

Giga
I agree with you Giga! Although some caterpillers are seriously pretty, I don't think they can compare with the beauty of butterflies.

Many greetings!

The light does remind one of hot
summer days, but infact these pics were only taken three weeks ago. It's pouring down with rain today however!!

And just when the caterpillar thought his life was over, he became a butterfly :)

Barbara said...

Such a fun close up, he is really having a Hair Day.

Breathtaking said...

Barbara
He certainly looks like he could find his way around much better with a fringe trim:)
