Gliders

The Swallowtail
Papilio machaon ( Papilionidae)
This Swallowtail has lost one of it's trademark tail streamers on the hind wing

The Scarce Swallowtail
lphiclides podalirius (Papilionidae)

The ground colour of the wings is yellowish but can look confusingly white in strong sun light as above photo shows.

Thank you Jan! They really are a gorgeous butterfly.When the lavender is in bloom they abound in the garden.I love to see their long elegant glides,and the way they seem to check me out by effortlessly floating around me several times before settling on a flower.
It rained here yesterday too, unheard of in July.What is going on
with this crazy weather!!:=(
