The Bluethroat.

At first I thought I had seen a little Wren or perhaps a Robin in the distance, running from one side of the narrow dirt path to the other. I stood perfectly still, and waited with my camera at the ready, hoping it would  reappear, ..and when it did, and started to make it's way back, running very quickly towards the reed beds from where it had first emerged, it was then I saw the flash of blue.

Because whilst making my previous post, I made an error, I was prevented from making any corrections, or adding my thanks to those of you who kindly gave me the ID of the IF bird, but I am really grateful for any information you gave me. Thank you so much. :) I will be linking this post to Wild Bird Wednesday.

The male Bluethroat.   Luscinia  svecica.
The white spotted race ( Cyanecula) can be seen in central and southern Europe ( that's the white spot on the throat.)

Because he was running so fast, these indifferent shots were the best of a blurry bunch. Pity I did not do it justice because his electric blue breast is beautiful, however unlike the male, most females lack the blue.

It’s a great species, Sonjia, and you must have been quite thrilled. I have only ever seen this species once - one bird, one time - in France and it was an immature. Perhaps one day I will come across an adult! In is handsome indeed.

No matter what the bird is, it's important that it's beautiful and you've managed to take a picture. :)

The photos of the blue throat bird is good enough for me! I have never seen this bird before! Very pretty!

In my opinion, there is no such thing as an indifferent picture of a bird! These smaller kinds are so hard to catch! I’ve waited like you did so often and then not gotten a thing! Thanks for your great shares.

there should be a small pencil, next to the word comments, at the end of your post, that would allow you to make changes to your post. there is another way but that is the easiest. you should see that as long as you are signed in!!!

this is a beautiful bird, and i think you captured 2 great pictures of him! he looks kind of ordinary from the back and extraordinary from the front - those boys - they get all the good stuff!!

Hello Sonjia. Firstly, I was interested to hear how you failed to find Little Owl on your visit to the Algarve. I do think that the problem with Little Owls is more wisespread than we think, but let's hope not.

The Bluethroat was a super find and you have some lovely shots of it. I have only seen them in Egypt, but lots of them where they are quite confiding and very photogenic as you found.

Wonderful bird - I once (when I was young and silly) travelled a long way to see one of these - it flew into a bush as we arrived and was never seen a again. Oh well.
