Spotted Flycatcher

The Spotted Flycatcher  Muscicapa striata

Juvenile

They usually perch on look-out on jutting branch with upright posture, and often flick wings,

then launch  out in short sally and snatch some small flying insect.

The Spotted Flycatcher is a specialist at taking airborn insects. .

There is a plum tree outside my studio, where many birds perch, and I can photograph them through the window. Yesterday I saw an adult and a juvenile Spotted Flycatcher. Their plumage is plain brownish-grey with streaking on the breast and forehead, and they have a distintive long tail. Both sexes are alike.

Spotted Flycatchers are cracking little birds to see and to photograph. How lovely to have two right outside your window.

it looks a little like one of the flycatchers that visits Sweden in summer. It is a lovely one. :)

i do the exact same thing. as the birds have gotten use to me, i find i can open the window and they are no longer shy. either way, the pictures come out great but maybe just a hair crisper when the window is open.

this guy seems to be a "frequent flyer" and you are really getting some awesome captures!!!!

many thanks for your kind comment on my blog today. my post was a long read and i appreciate your words more than you will ever know. some people are just happy, no matter the circumstances. i hope today is a good day for you!!!!

Excellent portraits of the flycatcher. The feather detail is so sharp, and I love the various poses.

What a nice looking bird - for a couple of summer when I was a kid, they nested in the ivy near my bedroom window. Wish I had had a camera in those days.
