Of the Family Salamandridae

The Newt
These photos were taken at different times and on different days. Strange looking little fellows, but oddly attractive. I'm not sure if they are Marbled Newts, and would appreciate any suggestions as to their correct identification. They have changed their appearance since I first spotted them!! I really wanted to take some photos of these Newts on land, but could only get these under water shots. It's not always the same Newt, and some images are clearly better than others but none of them are as good as I would have liked.

Thank you so much! I agree, their
skin is nicely marked, and their under belly also makes a nice contrast.

I really like that last shot, looks like he is posing for you. Great images, he looks like a combo of a toad and a snake!!

That's pretty amazing.

Thank you Deana! In the last shot, the little guy did seem to want to draw attention to itself. I could not agree with you more as to their looks, that's exactly what I think.

Hi! Newts are pretty amazing creatures. I am intrigued by them
because during their metamorphosis they change their appearance so much.

Interesting looking creatures. I especially love the last one, superb captures!

Yes they are interesting,a delight to watch.I rather like the last photo myself. The Newt seemed to be watching me!! So pleased you like it.

Len said...

Were you underwater with them? You must have a super camera. What make is it?
LEN.
PS Summer appears to have arrived here for a few days but I expect some rain as it is Wimbledon fortnight!

Breathtaking said...

Len
No, I was'nt underwater. Although the water is very clean and relitively clear I know that water snakes swim there, so it's not a good idea to enter the water!!
I have a Sony and a Nikon camera.

Lovely clear sharp captures, not easy to capture in water.
Superb.

I know well the caudate species of frog belonging to the family Salamandridae. These animals did not captivate me, but is undoubtedly the salamander that I am more accustomed to seeing. kisses

Frogs are not as appealing as these
little fellows.Over the next year the Newt will change it's appearance yet again. It will be quite interesting to see what they look like at the end of their
metamorphosis, and they will be much easier to identify. Are these like the ones you have seen before?
Kisses.

I think they are absolutely beautiful and that you did a wonderful job with the photos! So difficult underwater but you didn't seem to have any problems.

I also loved your Bee Beetle, (so sorry to miss commenting on the post!) I have never seen one so looked them up to see if we get them here, apparently we do but they are very rare! Your photos of it are really beautiful.

Thank you so much for the lovely, generous comments you leave on my blog, they are very much appreciated!

Good luck finding a Bee beetle!

It's like a breath of Spring to visit your blog, and my pleasure. Thankyou!
