Photogenic Peacock.

The Peacock butterfly  Nymphalis io (Nymphalidae)

The fast flying Peacock butterfly flies from June -September. It perches with wings wide open or closed. They are particularly fond of my Statice flowers (Limonium Smuatum Statice) sometimes referred to as Sea Lavender. It's a great alternative or addition to the Buddleias which attract most butterflies. The Staice flower is commonly used in dried flower arrangements, as well as fresh bouquets, and when properly dried they retain their vibrant colours. You can grow them in a variety of colours, then just enjoy the spectacale as the butterflies appear. I prefer the purples and lilacs, but they are all very pretty.

Lovely pictures. Interesting that you get them between June to September. Here they survive the winter and appear on sunny days early spring. They continue to fly until June, when they lay eggs which turn into butterflies in August. It is those butterflies that we will see again next spring.

What a beautiful series! I had seen these butterflies on blogs before but didn't know what they were called. It's interesting that the undersides of the wings are camouflaged.

Wow, yes your Peacock butterfly is really PHOTOGENIC and wonderful captures♡♡♡ I really enjoyed reading your explanation 'sea lavender, Buddleia'♪ Buddleia sure look like Statice (haha, I needed to check with pc). I wouldn't have known about these beauties without blogging:-)

I've been really busy, sorry for my belated visit. I always love your breathtaking pictures, Sonija.

Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan, xoxo Miyako*

This butterfly is difficult to photograph ... stops for a moment and closes its wings, hiding its beautiful colors ... I chased a butterfly so long ago, in a mountainous ... the butterfly went to hide on a wall moss-covered and no longer visible ... then reappeared ... a game that ended without memorable pictures. Instead, your photos are extraordinarily vivid and full of poetry. The texture and color of statice contrast well with the butterfly and the square cut of the photo creates harmonious compositions. Beautiful and lovely as always ... a true joy to see again so many beautiful photos from you !!!Warm hugs,Rita

The markings are lovely on this butterfly. Looks like an oranger peacock:) The "eyes" are my favorites on this one.
