Chocolate Vine

The Akebia quinata

The weather has changed again, and the forecast is rain for the next few days:( This Akebia quinata or Chocolate vine, half covers our pátio, and in between showers I took these photos yesterday to show you. It's a semi-evergreen climber with chocolate scented flowers which hang in clusters. The female flowers are the large ones, and they stand out against the bright green three lobed leaves which have a purple tinge in winter.

Amazing pictures.
The flowers look wonderful against the light, increasing their colors and the rain drops are perfect.

Those are lovely flowers. I can see the rain drops still on them! What strange weather we are having in Europe. Still very cold and windy here, but surprisingly dry. It is due to turn to rain tomorrow. Maybe spring will start soon!

Hi Nick:=) Yes, the weather is sooo unseasonable! Most of these pretty blooms are on the ground now due to a heavy rainfall in the night. Hope it at least keeps dry for you:)

Oh wow, what a wonderful plant, Sonja. I have never seen it before. It must be a great scent when you sit on your patio. I can almost imagine. Gorgeous pictures. Especially the drops make them more impressive. Greetings, Joke

Joke (Jokes Camera)

Thank you Joke:) Yes, it is a rather pretty and unusual plant, and the subtile fragrance is very pleasing. It is originally from Japan, can be invasive, but planted in the right place is low maintenance.

Enjoy your weekend
Take care:=)

Sonjia, son unas fotos preciosas, no sabía que las Akebias oliesen a chocolate, es muy curioso. El año pasado pinté una Akebia, es una flor que me gusta mucho.
Un cariñoso abrazo. Sonia.

Thank you Sonia:)It is very curious that they smell of chocolate, and the intensity of fragrance depends on the soil in which they are planted.

I will look for and hope I find your painting Sonia.
Un grand abrazo.:=)

Hi Steph!
It doesn't grow much taller than 5-6 meters, but it can cover a small arch, and look very pretty. So pleased you like it:)
