Great bird, a rarity here in north Japan though I have seen a few, not as good as seeing them in an olive grove in the Med...........

What an unusual bird. I thought at first it was a woodpecker of some sort.

Yes he is,at his most interesting when he opens his crest.Reminds me of
an indian chiefs head-dress.

Thankyou my friend,he is a very unusual bird and is not around for long.Comes here every year
in late March, but was earlier this year.I was very lucky to get a photo, glad you like it.:)

Thankyou, these two were the best of four I was able to take.I might have been able to get more shots if my Teckle hadn't startled it!!

It was a nice surprise to see that the "Poupas" are back.It was the second sighting I had had,
but was only successful yesterday, when I saw two
near my studio.I'm so glad you like them.:)XX

The Hoopoe is with us for a short period of time, usually from the latter part of March to mid April. We always see them in the same place
each year,so I was on the lookout for a chance to photograph them as I
had spotted one the day before.I got lucky!!

Deanna
I must admit to being very excited when I realized that I had a chance of photographing
this shy bird and although I have taken photos
in the past, this is the first time I managed to
get a decent close-up!!:)

Nava
It's not uncommon in central europe, and is very
beautiful in flight, and when it opens it's crest.

Breathtaking said...

S Etole
Ah yes I can see why you thought it was a woody
at first glance, the black and white feathering
and the touch of orange!!In flight they are not
dissimilar.:)

Nice that you stopped by,hope everything is well
with you.Yes nature gives us so many wonderful
and unforgetable moments, there is something new
to see every day,and sometimes we get lucky,as I
did when I saw this beautiful Poupa.:)
